Buckle up, folks! The 2025 NFL Draft is only a little more than a month away. And as expected, two college football stars are still riding on the hype train. That’s none other than the Miami Hurricanes’ QB Cam Ward and Colorado Buffaloes QB Shedeur Sanders. Which NFL team is showing strong interest in both college football quarterbacks? The $5.3 billion worth Pittsburgh Steelers!
In that case, will they show the doors to their QB star, Russell Wilson? Going by the hush-hush, Ward or Shedeur is likely to replace Wilson. However, there comes a demand in the move.
As per the reports, Wilson’s time with the Steers has concluded. The Gerry Dulac insider shared that Mike Tomlin and Co. no longer hail the ten-time Pro Bowl quarterback. What made the Steelers let go of Wilson after just one season? Well, the quarterback struggled over the last five games of the season. But this might turn into a hasty decision as he also put up 16 touchdowns with just five interceptions, bringing the offense to its highest peak. It’s a strange decision, nonetheless.

While Wilson is all set to take a free-agent visit to the Cleveland Browns on March 13, followed by the New York Giants on March 14, Ward and Shedeur are now reigning the narrative.
On March 12, Miami Herald columnist Omar Kelly tweeted, “If Pittsburgh lets Russell Wilson AND Justin Fields leave they either feel really good about landing Aaron Rodgers, OR they plan to land Cam Ward or Shedeur Sanders. That would likely require a move up in the draft.”

Now, the fans would take some time to make peace with this. After all, for months, Pittsburgh propagated that they wouldn’t draft a quarterback in the first round. However, after the NFL Scouting Combine, things boiled up. Shedeur had caught the hype because of his personality. He comes off as a confident, borderline arrogant leader whose traits will earn him as many fans as detractors.
What’s your perspective on:
Is Shedeur Sanders' attitude a red flag, or exactly what the Steelers need for a fresh start?
Have an interesting take?
Yes, he’s just 23!
However, the Steelers can only land Shedeur if the Buffs’ QB drops outside the Top 20 picks. At No. 21, Pittsburgh is simply out of range for passers locked into the top five and isn’t close to trading up, either. Now, what about Ward? Well, Tomlin might be pursuing the Miami QB strongly because he draws a comparison with the Pittsburgh legend Ben Roethlisberger.
As Pro Football Focus analyst Trevor Sikkema said, “Both had some scoot with their escapability, but you wouldn’t exactly call them mobile. Both were also fearless in pushing the ball deep down the field.”
But at the same time, the Steelers are also keen on signing Rodgers. It’s easy to believe Rodgers, recently facing career uncertainty, is now prioritizing self-interest. Pittsburgh must be waiting near the phone to pick up Rodgers’ phone call. Meanwhile, Shedeur might still be in play for the New York Jets. All in all, fun times ahead.
New York Jets’ plan to snag Shedeur Sanders
When it comes to Shedeur and his journey to the NFL, it has been a bitter ride, to say the least. At first, he got dragged into some comparison with Ward. The reason?

Well, the NFL scouts reportedly spotted some red flags in Deion Sanders’ son. “Shedeur Sanders is reportedly being placed behind Cam Ward on several team’s boards now due to ‘off-the-field/attitude’ concerns.” While some teams love the attitude, some raised doubts.
Ward has dedicated his whole time and energy to football, whereas Shedeur had to part it with his two other hobbies. That is rapping, and his love for watches and the flex that comes with it. But so what?
The NFL Giants are willing to go to any extent to land the Buffs’ QB. For the time being, the Jets are making it to the headlines. The Jets have decided against bringing Rodgers back in 2025. Fields was signed to a two-year, $40 million contract, signaling that the franchise views him as its starter. Even after this, New York will probably consider establishing a second quarterback move.

On that note, Michael Middlehurst-Schwartz projects a scenario. He predicted the Jets would pull off a trade back into the late stage of the first round with the Los Angeles Rams. With this, they would get the pass for the No.26 pick and land Shedeur Sanders. It’s a golden opportunity for the Jets, but will the Steelers steal Shedeur away?
