Shedeur Sanders vs. Carson Beck—who's the real future star of the NFL?

Carson Beck of Georgia has the best chance to be the No. 1 pick,” said ESPN analyst Mel Kiper Jr. while discussing 2025 NFL drafts ahead of the 2024 season. Now that we are a few days down in the season, Beck is making waves after his power-packed performance in Georgia‘s season opener victory against Clemson on Saturday. After analyzing week one of the 2024 season, another player who can beat him in this race is Shedeur Sanders, according to Mel Kiper in his recent tweet.

The first week of the season brought in a lot of thrills for football fans. It granted a chance to the evaluators to come up with opinions ranking top teams and players along with the predictions of top 2025 draft prospects. As obvious, football enthusiasts are waiting to know who competes for the top quarterback position. During ESPN’s ‘Get Up‘ show, which aired on Wednesday morning, Draft guru Mel Kiper Jr. shared his views on the top quarterback prospects.

When host Mike Greenberg asked him about his top QB in the class right now, he answered by saying, “It’s between Carson Beck and Shedeur Sanders, Greeny. Kiper further added, “Carson Beck was 234, on the big board coming out of high school when they ranked them, right? 22 quarterbacks were ranked ahead of Carson Beck. Look where he is now.” Kiper highlighted the fact that after moving to Colorado, Beck has improved his game. IN last season, he threw 3738 yards and 22 touchdowns and his performance in Georgia’s 2024 season opener game was also impressive.

Mel Kiper pointed out Beck’s journey by stating that Beck developed as a QB. He watched, sat, learned, and showed that maturity at 21. He’ll be 22 in November this year. Last year, Carson’s completion percentage was 72%. On top of that, he played so well in the first week’s game against Clemson. He talked about another quarterback who is as good as Beck: Shedeur Sanders.

While highlighting Shedeur’s growth as a quarterback over the past few years, Mel Kiper explained Sanders was rated below 15 other quarterbacks coming out of high school. He joined Jackson State for his collegiate journey, coached by his dad, Deion Sanders, and afterward went to Colorado. On Saturday night, the Buffs played against Nebraska. That game could evaluate Sanders’ take as a top QB. On top of that, Sanders made waves in college football last season with 393 passing yards, two touchdowns, and a rushing touchdown in an impressive game over the Cornhuskers.

Besides that, Kiper discussed Shedeur’s determination to his game by recalling the days when Shedeur was injured and how he maintained his involvement with the team. “But his toughness, Greeny, he held up last year, got injured late with an awful offensive line.” With that being said, let’s add fuel to the ongoing debate of who you think will get the top QB position at the end of the season.
