Shedeur Sanders, who is a potential No. 1 overall draft pick, chose not to throw at the combine in Indianapolis, and instead, focus on interviews with teams. His four years’ worth of film should be good enough to make a case for his abilities on the field (and he will throw at his school’s Pro Day ahead of the NFL Draft). Then why did the 23-year-old, who planned on having conversations with several teams, ghost them last minute?

New phone. Who dis?

Well, it was unintentional, but it did cause a major hiccup in the plans. Imagine several teams and big names in the industry trying to reach out but to no avail! That’s exactly what happened, and it reached a point when he had to enlist his mother’s help in get hold of the phone only for her to comeback empty-handed. A careless mishap that he realized at the East-West Shrine Bowl. The teams had been texting a number he no longer had access to! In a new episode of ‘2Legendary’ podcast on YouTube, Shedeur explained what took place.

“After the Combine, we have 30 visits,” the QB revealed. “So what 30 visit is for those who don’t know, you go and you schedule meetings and dates with all these different teams that really is thinking about drafting you. That’s my definition… But some type of interest. You go there and then you spend like I think like 24 hours in the city… and they talk to you, you get you on the board, do everything you got to do. […] So far, things could change day by day and some more teams could get added.” And that’s when he revealed his big blunder!

“I think my other phone that they have the number, I think that phone, I can’t find that phone in my house. So they just find a way to contact it [laughing]. I don’t know how, bro. I don’t know where the phone is. I asked my mom five times to try and find it in the house and when I was at the Shrine Bowl, they were like, ‘Yeah, we text your number’. I’m like, ‘Bro, I don’t even have that number anymore.’

“So I know my other phone, that works right now.” Things don’t end here. When the host asked him about his lost phone’s potential resale value, the quarterback answered,

“That phone worth is up there. Whoever finds the other phone, just DM me. […] A lot [phone’s value], bro.” The only satisfaction readers can take away from this is, despite the confusion, Sanders is rest assured about the fact that he’s aware of scheduled meetings he’s booked with the Browns, Titans, and Giants.

Well, one can only hope Shedeur didn’t miss a life-changing phone call or that one message that he would have been dreaming about. Let us not forget that ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft, his stock appears to have fallen a bit.

Shedeur Sanders went down to the No. 7 overall selection in ESPN analyst Mel Kiper Jr.’s updated mock draft, which was revealed earlier this week. Additionally, discussions about Jaxson Dart have been increasing after his performance at the Combine. He could end up behind Cam Ward and become QB2.

Further, as reported by Albert Breer from Sports Illustrated, NFL teams are expecting a “superpower trait” from Shedeur, considering he is one of the most accurate QBs but AFC franchises are also hoping for something that sets him apart from the rest of the class.

But not all is lost for Shedeur (only his phone). Despite the mishap, he has secured meetings with the Tennessee Titans, Cleveland Browns, and New York Giants—three teams that hold premium draft picks. But fans have been giving him a tough time ever since they got to know about his phone antics.

The internet wants no excuses from Shedeur Sanders ahead of the NFL Draft!

If Shedeur Sanders hoped that fans would find his phone situation amusing, he miscalculated it. Social media comments have been anything but kind, wherein some questioned his maturity and readiness to lead an NFL team. Fans wrote:

  • “Kid is such a clown.”
  • “You want this guy leading your team? 🤡

Well, this criticism reminds us of the advice Deion Sanders gave his son earlier this week: “I told him, first of all, don’t believe nothing that they say, because people are going to criticize you so you fall to them… That’s how it is. It’s positioning right now. So don’t believe none of that.”

It seems like Shedeur Sanders has been listening to his father, as he didn’t get too flustered over losing his phone. Yet, it was a shock for fans as they couldn’t imagine the QB losing that one thing that could decide his future ahead. More comments came in:

  • “I wouldn’t want him as my QB. Smh.”

Many Browns fans were questioning if he should be their QB. After all, his name has been connected with the team a lot in recent times. However, we wonder how Deion Sanders feels about that. Shawne Merriman revealed earlier this week that the quarterback’s famous father was not too sure about Shedeur’s future with the Browns. The reason? Their instability.

He opined that ‘Prime Time’ wouldn’t want his son to go through issues like frequent coaching changes, questionable offensive play, and culture problems.

  • “I really hope he drops closer to the 20th pick than top 5.”

Shedeur Sanders has been projected as a high first-round pick, but incidents like this could give teams more reason to question whether he belongs in the top tier of prospects.
