Can Shedeur Sanders outshine Cam Ward and Quinn Ewers to become the NFL's top draft pick?

Is it just me, or is the hype around Shedeur Sanders heating up? Indeed, every Saturday, the kid appears to have accomplished something effortlessly, and it is impossible not to pay attention to what he is doing in Colorado. After rushing for 1630 yards and scoring 14 touchdowns in this season, one has to ask” is he in contention for being selected first overall in the NFL Draft?

Well, going by the recent findings of the 20 NFL scouts, nine of them may have just thought he was. Indeed, Cam Ward and Quinn Ewers are top contenders, but Shedeur is starting to carve his niche out well. First, let us consider the facts. Cam Ward of Miami has thrown for 1,782 yards and 18 touchdowns, and Quinn Ewers, in establishing himself with the Texas Longhorns, has racked up 691 yards and eight touchdowns, while the surprisingly high QBR of 69.1 belongs to Sanders. He’s nearly out of the Heisman race, yet the hype around him is genuine. That they are paying attention, well, that is a huge bonus for scouts. Very good showings in future games could lock him up as a first-round talent.

So, what is there to know about the competition? Well, you have Jalen Milroe from Alabama and Carson Beck from Georgia breathing down his neck. Milroe has 964 yards and 10 touchdowns, and Beck has 1,119 yards and 10 touchdowns, respectively. It is worth mentioning that they have pretty reasonable numbers, but the focus is constantly drawn back to Shedeur again. There’s something about the way he commands the field, as if he was born for this moment.

Now, let’s dive a bit deeper. Before the start of the new season, Shedeur had been listed at +2500 in terms of Heisman chances. But guess what? They have dropped to +6600 in mid-September and the man is clawing his way to get in the top twenty list. His teammate, Travis Hunter, is even pulling better odds. Talk about competition! But here’s the kicker: more people have bet on Sanders to win the Heisman than any other player. People do more often than speak; they invest in him, and this shows how much the fans believe in him.

The competition is heating up

Still, he rises and falls. There are feelings that if he continues with the same form, then he may be the number one pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Well, at least he loves attention, and we need our quarterback to love attention like the NFL stars loves attention. But when the pressure is on, he has occasionally come through.

What’s your perspective on:

Can Shedeur Sanders outshine Cam Ward and Quinn Ewers to become the NFL's top draft pick?

Have an interesting take?

While some scouts are favoring Ward and Ewers, he’s got that ‘it’ factor that scouts love in Shedeur. It is evident from experience that he has been endowed with that burning desire in him. And that’s when he has been proving not just a footballer but a fighter on the football pitch of every game. Well, in the NFL, that mindset is all important.

Let’s not forget, though, college football is unpredictable. One game can make or break a player’s reputation, and with so much on the line, Shedeur needs to keep pushing. He’s got the talent, but can he maintain his performance against tougher opponents? That’s the million-dollar question.

This is true as we approach the playoffs, and every single game turns out to be very important. Shedeur has to go out there and demonstrate that he can compete with all the top prospects and show he’s one of them. The scouts will be watching, and in the process, if he can come out glowing, then who knows? That is all we will ever know him to be: the first quarterback off the board in the draft. It is going to be one crazy ride, and I’m going to watch how it all pans out and takes shape!
