Grab a cup of joe folks cause Deion Sanders is back on the news. It had been what? a week or so maybe? When we got to know about the entire Deion Sanders and CBS News drama, where Coach Prime refused to talk to any CBS reporter. Well, now we find him in another mess as he had decided to not answer/attend to any questions by columnist Sean Keeler. The main alleged issue was that all the things published by Keeler had been personal attacks on Coach Prime. This made the media go into a frenzy, with people bashing Deion for the entire thing. Out of all the people. Deion’s close friend Shannon Sharpe was quick to come to his defense on ESPN First Take on August 27th.

However, Sharpe probably didn’t know that he was about to get cornered by Paul Finebaum and Stephen A. Smith because of his stand. “He is picking on some little guy,” Finebaum noted. Finebaum’s main take was that Deion banning someone from the University who does not have much coverage seems illogical and makes Coach Prime look like a bully. Following this, Smith added, “I am disappointed.” Finebaum and Smith make sense if we think about it. Deion is a giant in the sports world. He has made Buffs, a team that had nothing, into a $200+ million program. Not only that, he has managed to bring in one of the best QBs in CFB (Shedeur Sanders) and also probably the best college football player (Travis Hunter). People have got eyeballs on him and he WILL get criticized for any wrong move he makes. Much like Andy Staples had mentioned back on On3. “Deion brings so many eyeballs. That everybody Colorado plays wants to beat the living crap out of them,” Staples had noted. The entire fallout that happened between Coach Prime and Keeler makes no sense.

“If you don’t want to talk to the reporter, don’t talk to the reporter,” Smith went on to suggest regarding the entire situation. Currently, we all know that the 2024 season is the year of redemption for the Buffs, so it would be much better if Deion keeps his focus on that. Criticisms will come and go, but you have to give the guy praise for all the changes he has made to the team to ensure that his kid, Shedeur, manages to lock in some solid wins. The best thing that came out of this entire scenario would be Sharpe and the strength of his friendship with Deion Sanders.

We all know at this point that Sharpe always has Deion’s back. Even during the aforementioned CBS reporter drama, Sharpe had mentioned on this show that Deion has all the right to refuse to talk to any reporter he wants. This was just one serious aspect of their friendship. We have even seen both of them troll each other as well. Back in December, Sharpe trolled Deion for his “freakish eight toes”. The clip went viral on X as fans saw Sharpe roasting Coach Prime and his flip-flops.

We even saw him link up with hip-hop legend Cam’ron and enjoy a watch party of Deion’s team playing against TCU. Sharpe had also defended Deion after the disastrous 4-8 run the Buffs had. While Coach Prime had thought that the people he had kept close would protect him, no one was there by the end of the season run. “He thought the people he loved the most and spoke the highest of would protect him,” Sharpe had noted in his show. He even went on to criticize and call out those “people” for speaking against Deion. While Coach Prime’s tussle with the media will probably continue forever, we can all rest well knowing he has Sharpe to have his back.
