Did Jim Harbaugh leave Michigan in ruins, or is Sherrone Moore just not up to the task?

Jim Harbaugh can’t seem to catch a break. After calling his relationship with the Michigan Wolverines off, he thought he would have a peaceful life with the NFL. But no. Remember the sign-stealing allegations and investigations before the coach moved to the NFL? Well, the issue spoiled his reputation, and now, people are back to drag him through the mud for the shenanigans Sherrone Moore is pulling.

Michigan State Representative Phil Skaggs took to X to point out the glaring issues with Michigan football. “Let’s be clear what is going with @UMichFootball. This goes back to the refusal by @WardeManuel, @UmichPrezOno, and the regents to stand by Head Coach Jim Harbaugh last year and then do nothing to keep the best coach in football at Michigan.”

The University of Michigan had a shot at keeping Harbaugh, but they blew it. And the dynasty Harbaugh handed over to Moore was not polished enough.

But see, there are some other problems as well. Moore is a great offensive coordinator. He managed to bring back the team from the edge and, with Harbaugh and JJ McCarthy in the lead, Wolverines football entered a new era back in 2021. However, as an HC? Moore is absolutely a letdown. Check the quarterback room for an example.

Not a single QB under Moore has replicated the same success Harbaugh-McCarthy managed to get done. This is astonishing. And the worst part is that there have been zero efforts in improving as well. If you look at the Illini game, the entire team had Moore and Co. in a fix. Michigan’s defense and offense were tragic and there has been zero room for proper plays during the entire game.

As per Zach Shaw of 247 Sports, here is where the Wolverines rank nationally in several categories:

What’s your perspective on:

Did Jim Harbaugh leave Michigan in ruins, or is Sherrone Moore just not up to the task?

Have an interesting take?

  • 112th in points per game
  • 113th in yards per play
  • 117th in turnover margin
  • 119th in yards per game
  • 120th in first downs per game
  • 122nd in turnovers lost
  • 130th in scrimmage plays of 10+ yards
  • 131st in scrimmage plays of 20+ yards

Standing on 4-3, the dreams of making the playoffs are pretty much over. If Moore is losing to a team like Illinois, there is no way he can bounce back against the rest of the teams on his schedule. It just feels like Harbaugh cheated and took the easy way out and his assistant was left with nothing. Hey, we aren’t suggesting this. Fans said so.

No rest for Jim Harbaugh; Fans blame him for the Wolverines’ misery!

Much before the sign-stealing controversy, the NCAA sent the Wolverines a notice of allegations regarding recruiting violations. Things kept getting strange. There was an assistant who got fired because of ‘computer access crimes’ and then the son of legendary coach Bo Schembechler, who resigned just three days after being hired because of his social media activity.

Then later, they got embroiled in a sign-stealing scheme that involved in-person scouting of opponents going back as long as three seasons. While Harbaugh eventually moved to the NFL, people haven’t forgotten these issues.

  • “Shame on Jim Harbaugh for leaving Sherrone Moore with this Michigan team.”
  • “Jim Harbaugh at Michigan: Cheat. Win. Quit. Leave behind an absolute garbage team for your assistant.”

See, the Wolverines did get their flame back on from 2021 to 2023, but that was done on the foundation of the entire sign-stealing wrongdoing. That stain isn’t gonna rub off anytime soon.

  • “Imagine being a Michigan fan and knowing it took Jim Harbaugh and cheating to be better than this lol.”
  • So eerily similar to how it felt after Lloyd Carr retired and Michigan went on one of the worst runs in school history. Jim Harbaugh took everything, and this staff is lost. At least we won a natty.”

Under Lloyd Carr’s coaching, Michigan won a national championship, but when he announced his retirement in 2007, many felt the program would decline. Six years later (2013), the team was no better than when Carr stepped down.

Finally, a fan ended with, “Illinois just destroyed Michigan. Says everything you need to know about Connor Stalions, Jim Harbaugh, and their stolen championship.” Y
