“Sometimes when he gets the ball in his hands, Travis Hunter looks like Randy Moss… Sometimes he looks like Tyreek Hill.” From our recent memory, Travis Hunter‘s NFL draft has to rank on top of “Top 10 dilemmas the League has to struggle with”. Where do you place a guy who, as a CB? Catches pick 6s right from the air, and as a WR? Manages to land 30+ yard passing touchdowns? His entire 2-year run with the Buffs has proven one thing: Travis Hunter is dynamic and can play 2-way, but as a billion-dollar league franchise, would you – A. play Travis Hunter as your receiver or B. leave his talents to the defense? We keep running in circles with the same questions, but ESPN’s new mock draft could provide us with some insights we have been desperate for.
“The Patriots have a lot of needs, with offensive tackle and receiver being the biggest. They can address some of those issues using their $129.6 million in cap space in free agency… then drafting the best player on the board,” Jordan Reid points out on his list. A $7.3 billion dynasty who are, as fans would say, “way past their prime” – let’s get one thing straight: The Tom Brady and Bill Belichick era is long gone, and the Patriots need a refresh, and Reid thinks the best way to spend salary cap is to get one of the best players on the board: Travis Hunter.

Another surprise hidden in Reid’s mock draft is the fact that he projects Hunter to be a CB/WR for the Patriots. If you are a Patriots fan, do you think Reid made a bad suggestion? We’ll give you our take: Patriots CB coach Mike Pellegrino pointed out a very interesting thing: “He’s got that dawg mentality of ‘not going to let this guy win.’ He wants to be great, and he does all the extra things to be great.”
Now, this praise wasn’t for Hunter but for Christian Gonzalez. 54 tackles on his record with a notorious reputation of being able to “lock up the opposing team’s top receiver”. In the Jets game alone, Devante Adams wasn’t allowed a single catch while one-on-one with Gonzalez.
What happens when you pair this with Hunter? The same guy who recorded the 3rd highest coverage grade and 9th best passer rating according to PFF. In the gridiron? If you were a quarterback? You’d never know when Hunter picks your pass off. H-ll, even we didn’t expect him to land that interception against the Rams.
Took 3 defenders to stop him from getting a pick 6 in. The amount of carnage Gonzalez and Hunter can wreak in the gridiron… you have no idea? We rest our case with the CB pick, but now you will ask, what about WR? Well, let’s talk about it.
What’s your perspective on:
Should the Patriots bet on Travis Hunter to revive their glory days, or is it too risky?

In his running shoes
Before we even got into this discussion, we mentioned an interesting quote: “Sometimes… Travis Hunter looks like Randy Moss… Sometimes he looks like Tyreek Hill.” ESPN’s Dan Orlovsky was spot-on with his observation.
A season record of 14 touchdowns with the Buffs, and that paired with his keen eye and speed? Well, you get a Hellcat ready to purr. While fans would say and agree that Hunter might not be the “peak” WR prospect, you still have to admit that he is a nightmare to cover.
No elite route running is fine, but still having a solid option for Drake Maye to throw at ain’t a bad trade. Look at it this way: You get Hunter, and you get to fill out the blocks in your defense and at the same time, you get a guy who is reliable and talented in the receiver room.
