Once again Tuesday determined the fate of college football teams in the playoffs, as the committee released their second set of playoff rankings. This weekly reality check is not only necessary for the teams to step up their game, but it also provides an idea of which team is performing better than the others. However, we know it is not all that straightforward! The conferences and their levels of difficulty have been a topic for debate, with everyone chiming in with their opinions! It seems that the rankings given to Steve Sarkisian’s Texas Longhorns need further consideration, as insiders have highlighted interesting facts about the team’s gameplay.
Following the notion today insider Joel Hass took to X to share his opinion on the CFP rankings given to the Texas Longhorns that are not aligning with their performance in the ongoing season, saying, “Penn State has a better resume than Texas. Just saying.” Well, this week’s projection places the Longhorns at number 3, while Penn State is at number 4. Both teams are on an 8-1 streak, but what makes the comparison more interesting is Joel revealing the less observed reality about Texas. Here it is.

Knowing the fact that Joel Hass is Penn State’s reporter, the opinion might come off as biased, but he has stated solid facts and there is no two way about it. Texas lost against Georgia with a score of 15-30, and there is no doubt that the Dawgs are a strong team, but this year their gameplay has taken a serious hit. The team is standing in 12th position after their recent loss of 28-10 against Ole Miss, which is quite the opposite of what they were perceived to be in the CFP.
Whereas in the case of Penn State, the team went up against the Ohio State Buckeyes and lost by a margin of 7 points. Ohio State has a better standing this season as compared to the Georgia Bulldogs, as the team is currently standing in the 2nd position of the CFP rankings with 8 wins and 1 loss, and the Bulldogs are at 7-2. But the question here is: Is the Texas program overrated?
Do Texas Longhorns don’t deserve that spot in CFP?

What’s your perspective on:
Are the Texas Longhorns overrated, or do they truly deserve their top playoff ranking?
Have an interesting take?
Well, it’s been a long debate on the Texas Longhorns not facing a tougher opponent this season. Even media personality Colin Cowherd highlighted the same fact a few days back on his podcast, where he talked about how much appreciation the Longhorns get for their wins and how silently their losses are ignored. Colin said, “Nobody’s talking about Texas. They got blown out, everybody sold their stock, and here’s little old Texas quietly with no pressure. They’re overrated; they got crushed.”
Now if we talk about Texas Longhorns opponents, even though Georgia might look like a challenging team, they have their own struggles this season. And we all know winning against Michigan doesn’t make much of a difference, as they are coming off as the nation’s most disappointing team in terms of gameplay apart from them. Texas had a very close win against Vanderbilt, which only added fuel to the fire. But you can also not ignore the fact that the team is currently ranked as the No. 1 team in defense for only allowing 241 yards per game. Now the question remains the same: which part should one focus on while deciding if Texas is worth that spot or not?
