At the age of 17, youngsters are usually figuring out their holiday homework and what to do in school the next day. Trying to pick what shoes to buy or who their favorite musician is but every once in a while, there comes a generational talent that breaks the cycle. So while the rest of the 17-year-olds in the world are making their first-world choices, Ryan Williams is battling it out against the likes of Travis Hunter and Cam Ward for the Heisman Trophy. He’s the wide receiver for the Alabama Crimson Tide who jumped right out of Saraland High School to become a member of the men in Crimson. And now, he’s shocking the world of college football with his tender age, which is shocking to the fans, to say the very least.
On 30th September, the official Instagram page of On3 released their Week 6 Heisman Poll which included the likes of Jalen Milroe, Ashton Jeanty, Kurtis Rourke, and Travis Hunter at the top of the list. Ryan Williams of Alabama stunned everyone by making it to the 5th position out of the 10 ranks, being the youngest out of them all.

The Alabama vs. Georgia game saw the tide rolling over the bark of the Bulldogs by a score of 41-34. A key moment came when Williams made an incredible ‘acrobatic’ catch, helping Alabama secure the win. He wrapped up the game with six catches for 177 yards, including that unforgettable touchdown. Well, for the entire season, he has been averaging an impressive 28.88 yards per catch, totaling 16 receptions for 462 yards and five touchdowns.
Not only has Williams emerged as one of the top receivers in the country, but he’s also entered the conversation for the Heisman Trophy, right alongside his quarterback, Jalen Milroe. One fan excitedly posted, “A 17-year-old top 5 in Heisman voting. Can’t wait to watch the rest of his college career,” showing admiration for Williams making the list.
At just 17 years old, he’s already become a fan favorite, with many in awe of his talent at such a young age. One fan was even in disbelief over his age, and commented, “DID YOU GUYS KNOW RYAN WILLIAMS IS ONLY 17 YEARS OLD!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?” But it’s not just Williams turning heads. Jeremiah Smith, an 18-year-old wide receiver for Ohio State, also made it onto On3’s top 10 list. Lastly, this fan summarized everyone’s awe of Williams and emphasized his age of 17 before commenting, “Imagine being 17 in run for the Heisman”
Thus, Williams is one of the biggest weapons in the arsenal of the Alabama Crimson Tide and with his age being so small, Kalen DeBoer could utilize him for a long time before he leaves for the NFL, therefore, adding to the tally of Alabama’s glory.
