Home/College Football

The ending of the 2024 college football season comes up with a lot of heartbreaks. There are teams that did not end up being as lucky as Ryan Day’s Ohio State Buckeyes and Marcus Freeman’s Notre Dame Fighting Irish. One of them is Steve Sarkisian’s Texas Longhorns. The Longhorns entered as the No. 3 team in the College Football Playoff rankings. Sarksian’s boys were steady whereas the rest of the SEC experienced chaos. Sadly, they did not get a happy ending.

However, we must know that Sarkisian is not the unlucky charm here. Rather if anyone has the power to flip the Longhorns’ luck then it’s him. But Texas better keep Sarkisian close, or he might be snatched away by the Dallas Cowboys.

SEC insider counts on Steve Sarkisian as the game-changer

This has been a tough season for the Longhorns HC. He had too many things on his plate. One of the issues that pestered him till the very last game was the quarterback dilemma. To play Quinn Ewers or not? To choose Arch Manning or not? Every seed from No.1 through No.8 has found themselves lucky to win the National Championship, except for one—the No.5 seed. Unfortunately, Sarkisian failed to protect himself and the Longhorns from the bad juju that the No.5 rank brings with it. Rather they fell prey to the bad luck that comes with the bye-week teams. They failed to make the most use of their 10 days rest. Now it’s obvious that the fans would be upset with Sarkisian. That’s when SEC Insider Michael Bratton made a bold statement.

In conversation with Paul Finebaum, he acknowledged how the powerhouse went through a rough patch, “I mean that that was a disaster.” This was followed with a gentle reminder, “But again Texas now that this is two years in a row that they made the college football playoff made it to the final four and come up.” Under HC Sark, Texas got to its first-ever College Football Playoff in 2023.

It’s high time that the program acknowledges how loyal their HC has been to them. Even though he was viewed as the next in line to replace the GOAT Nick Saban in Tuscaloosa, he chose to stick around. If he continues to stay like this, no force can stop the Longhorns from bagging the National Championship title. As Bratton shared, “I think Texas is here to stay and as long as Sarkisian doesn’t jump to the NFL I think Texas will probably win a national championship.” For that, the Longhorns need to lock the doors.

So ideally Dallas Cowboys GM Jerry Jones now has a priority task. He is on a mission to find out Mike McCarthy’s replacement. Already they have their eyes on Colorado Buffaloes HC Deion Sanders and are said to have been in touch with Coach Prime. Interstingly, Sarkisian also falls into their radar. On the Pat McAfee Show, NFL insider Adam Schefter doubled down on chances of a Sarkisian X Cowboys collab.

“Steve Sarkisian is a name that has swirled around out there in NFL circles for weeks now,” stated Schefter. Now what makes Jones to count on the Texas HC who has dedicated most of his career to college football? Well, we must not forget how Sarkisian’s resume consists of a short stint in the NFL. The Longhorns HC had served as the quarterbacks coach with the Oakland Raiders in 2004. Not just this, Sarkisian has been Atlanta Falcons’ offensive coordinator from 2017-2018.

With this, Steve Sarkisian comes off as the offensive guru. Plus, the Dallas GM Jerry Jones seems to have family ties to the Longhorns HC since his grandson plays under the head coach. On one hand, Sarkisian will get the chance to pocket a hefty amount and add another NFL feather to his hat. On the flip side, he has Arch Manning waiting in the wings. So, Texas needs a big play to keep Sark on board.
