Wow, Michigan really did leave a scar, huh? See, Ryan Day was on a roll and no one can disagree with that. They were coming off of that massive win against Indiana. Not only did Day manage to crush the Hoosiers’ undefeated run, he did it in style. Up next, though, was Michigan. The same team OSU has been losing to consecutively. Just a single game against a washed-up Wolverines team who have a walk-on QB guiding them. Seems easy enough, right? Yeah, history repeats itself and Ryan Day managed to suffer one of the most disappointing losses to the Wolverines by only 3 points. Now this sparked the entire “Fire Ryan Day” talks, but that wasn’t all.

You see, one Michigan player thought it would be an amazing idea to plant the UM flag on the Buckeyes’ home turf. What did this result in? A full-blown brawl. Not only that. It is being reported that state Rep. Josh Williams introduced the O.H.I.O. Sportsmanship Act on Tuesday. Now the terms of the bill are simple. “No person shall plant a flagpole with a flag attached to it in the center of the football field at Ohio stadium of the Ohio State University,” Williams had pointed.

If you are convicted of doing something like that, then you can face a 5th-degree felony and a penalty that can range from 6 to 12 months with a 5-year probation period and upwards of $2500 in fines. You would think that people would take this move as a positive, but not Andy Staples. “We have a zero self-awareness award to hand out. So, there’s an Ohio lawmaker who has now presented a bill… This is the softest thing anyone has ever done, I think,” Staples pointed out.

Folks, is this a soft move? From the police body cam footage, it was seen that there was a massive fight between the players. This entire thing could’ve escalated into something much worse, resulting in injuries or even arrests. Not only this would ruin a player’s season, but it could also potentially ruin their entire football career.

This move, while it will face some backlash, is not bad. Did y’all forget what happened during the Michigan vs MI State game? There was another massive fight after a head-to-head between Anthony Jones and Colston Loveland. Even that could’ve ended badly for the Spartans and the Wolverines.

While both OSU and UM have been fined $100,000 for the entire chaos that was caused on the Buckeyes’ turf, this law can be called a move in the right direction. But then again, this entire scenario also brings out a different perspective. See, you cannot put all the blame on Michigan for the entire brawl.

Urban Meyer out OSU

Urban Meyer had an interesting take on the entire scene. While he did blast Michigan for their move, he was much harsher on OSU. “Ohio State turned and charged them. Was that wrong? Absolutely wrong. It’s criminal,” Meyer pointed out. Now when you take this perspective into record, the entire bill, as Staples had pointed out, starts feeling like a “soft move”.

See, Michigan shouldn’t have planted that flat, and even if they had, the Buckeyes shouldn’t have started the fight. Just go there, take the flag off, and head home. The animosity is understandable because not only are you losing for the 4th consecutive time, but this is happening on your home turf has to hurt. Regardless, football ain’t a place for all of this. Petty squabbles, flexing your watch, and even verbal altercations are fine. But to go out in a full-blown brawl? Yeah, no, take this out of the ground.
