Ohio State Football kickstarted the season with a dominant win. The second-ranked Buckeyes cruised past Akron in front of the home crowd. Thanks to some brilliant moves by the former five-star wide receiver Jeremiah Smith and the entire lineup. An iron-strong defense limited Akron’s offense to 6 points. The team will face Western Michigan in Week 2. Coach Ryan Day did some critical evaluation of the pluses and minuses before their next match-up.
Day isn’t yet buying into the overwhelming waves of happiness and contentment after his team’s Week 1 victory. He’s neither nitpicking nor whining over the small slips on the couch. Rather, he’s taking a wait-and-see approach.

WR Jeremiah Smith was critical to the success of Ohio’s offense. He had six receptions for 92 receiving yards, including two TDs. On the other hand, QB Will Howard did a noticeable job in his Ohio debut match with 17/28 completed passes for 228 yards and three touchdowns. Gabe Powers struck the iron at the final moment after Joe McGuire pulled in the third punt of the day. All of these team moments culminated in the spectacular win of 52-6.
But the coach seemed to have a balanced eye on everything. His latest press conference brought plenty of nuggets for the fans to munch on before the players lace up the boots for the next game. In a reflective press conference, Coach Day noted, ‘‘The punt return was better. You could see that. That was good.”
Ryan Day named one positive surprise and two negative surprises from Ohio State’s season opener:

– : “I was disappointed with the first kickoff return. I thought we had an opportunity to pop that. We didn’t…

On areas of improvement, Ryan Day deemed the kickoff return a total chagrin. Moreover, Day wants to see a more swift start from his skilled troopers. He also dropped an update on two senior starters, Linebacker Cody Simon and left guard Donovan Jackson, who was absent from the opener, mentioning they were day-to-day at this point. Moving ahead, if we dig deeper into the motive of Ryan to scrutinize the team’s performance with extra precision after the session opener, we might spot a glimpse of his tottering job security.

The rivalry between Ohio and Michigan has tilted in the latter’s favour in their recent meetings. The dominant storyline for Ohio remains their November 30 matchup against the Wolverines. Michigan currently has a three-game winning streak against the Buckeyes, the latter’s first since 1995-97. Moreover, over the last three seasons, Michigan has effectively ended Ohio’s playoff hopes every time. Getting over their rivals can be a game-changer for the team, something that the Coach knows the best. Hence, from assembling world-top-notch coaches to recruiting a handful of new talents to the team and investing a huge money in NIL, he’s leaving no stone unturned to make it work.
