Can Ryan Day keep Devin Sanchez loyal, or will Texas Longhorns steal the show?

With the flip race peaking amidst the core season, Ohio State has garnered a serious edge over other programs. Not only they just had a top-tier performance this season (except for the brutal Oregon loss), Ryan Day and his team are working to make it a better place for recruits to settle in. After a statement victory against Purdue, the Buckeyes almost wrapped up the season with just two home games left on the schedule. Their stack is rising outside the field as well. They already have some big names like Anthony Rodgers and Derrek Cooper in their bag for the 2025 and 2026 recruiting classes. That said, there is always another side of the coin where Devin Sanchez, the impact CB commit, is possibly facing a lot of attention from programs like the Texas Longhorns. Will Steve Sarkisian get his way over Ryan Day?

”Devin Sanchez is the first. That’s the top of this list, in my opinion. That’s probably the hardest one that would actually have to happen. He’s been, you know, locked in Ohio State for the longest and so, but he continues to connect with Texas on a regular basis.” said On3‘s recruitment head, Josh Newberg.

The Texas Longhorns are heading to the final month of 2025 with 21 commitments in its class. A pretty decent number to flaunt! But the burnt orange has some bigger plans under their hat. They are pushing hard to get back their No.1 former defensive bank. As Newberg noted, ”Sar (Sarkisisan) continues to build that relationship out, so we got a month to see how that turns out.”

But to have a final word before December, the Longhorns coach needs to cross the bridge of Sanchez’s previous dissatisfaction over the program. Before joining forces with the Buckeyes, the standout RB threw some shades at Texas and its players.

In a glaring social media taunt back in June last year, the 18-year-old noted, ‘No disrespect to all those Texas schools down there, I mean, ai ago down, and I see them all and I have fun with them. But I fell like me and the talent I have, I feel like coming to a school like Ohio State, that’s where I get developed.” So, despite the rumors swirling over the air, the Buckeyes still seem to have a leg up at this moment.

Devin Sanchez seemingly entered the Ohio state for a long haul

Five-star plus CB Devin Sanchez has reaffirmed his commitment to the Buckeyes several times so far, leaving a very slim chance for naysayers to chime in. Since his entering the Ohio State camp in January at the All-American Bowl, Steve Sarkisian faced a lot of competition from a handful of programs that have constantly been trying to lure the No.1 overall talent to their team. But Sanchez’s loyalty knows no bounds.

The young cornerback has been so impressed by Ohio State’s progress and their vision for the future, that in the middle of this year, he said in a media call that he is very locked in. The team can just put a hard commitment next to his name if they want. Day should feel very secure about the highest-rated cornerback commit of the house since Jeff Okudah in 2017.

Apart from all the good things the Buckeyes have in their store, Sanchez’s key reason to stick is how well he bonded with coach Tim Walton. He’s more like a dad to the young phenomenon who was seeking guidance on his football path and life path as a whole. He also pivoted in leading Ohio State’s recruitment streak, trying to bring five-star cornerback Dorian Brew to the mix. Although Oregon had their luck favored in the case of Brew, Sanchez is proudly, loudly, a Buckeye.
