It is Halloween season, and dark clouds have already started to loom around Ohio State, more particularly Ryan Day. And even Saturday’s 21-17 win over the Cornhuskers didn’t seem to clear the ‘day’ for Day. Call it a mission failed successfully but wait, aren’t they 6-1 overall and ranked no. 4. Yes, to an untrained eye, that’s all. There’s more to it than the wins that meet the eye.

Speaking on CBS Sports, analyst Damien Harris expressed doubt about Day’s ability to win crucial games and handle matchups where Ohio State should decisively dominate. Highlighting Day’s major loopholes in must-win games like Nebraska. The offense got stuck in neutral, and freshman sensation Dylan Raiola paved the OSU secondary en route to a 17-14 lead early in the fourth quarter. Then he had a headset throwing day after the targeting controversy on linebacker Arvell Reese and ultimately saw him ejected. Not quite the day for the HC. Harris pointed out that, “The games he’s supposed to boat walk and just run teams out of the building. It’s always close games like this.”

The sluggish win over Nebraska came in like a gospel for the Buckeyes faithful and pundits too. The Ohio State head coach is in a sticky situation. And his team, too. They’re almost too good to fail, but they don’t look good enough to raise the flag like the Buckeyes way. The retired NFL RB wasn’t on head coach Ryan Day’s side this time when his team underperformed. Harris expressed doubt about Day’s ability to win crucial games and handle matchups where Ohio State should decisively dominate. Highlighting Day’s major loopholes in must-win games like Nebraska.

Is it high time to put Ohio State HC Ryan Day on the hot seat?

Ryan Day is accused of not living up to the explosive offense and ironclad defense fans have come to expect. Harris explored, “You were supposed to be a premier team in CFB and from coaching to playing, rushing attack I mean they’re just not living to the expectations”. Day’s reputation is on thin ice. Despite his high overall winning percentage, his inability to secure decisive wins against top-ranked teams has only added fuel to the fire for fans who feel Ohio State could benefit from new leadership at the helm.

Is Ryan Day's inability to dominate games a sign Ohio State needs new leadership?

Have an interesting take?

This was the perfect setup to make a statement after a bye week. They came in recharged after that one-point loss to the Ducks. Rather, Ohio State fell on their face. That makes two frustrating performances in a row and the fans made sure to let Day and the boys know how they felt. The question on many Buckeye fans’ minds is whether Days’ time in Columbus should come to an end. Is the talent not juiced out the way should be? A lot of questions, but what about someone else?

There are some suitable names flying around, with Matt Campbell of Iowa State being the most prominent among them. Known for his creative play-calling and ability to maximize talent. With Ohio State’s resources and recruiting prowess, Campbell could potentially elevate the team to consistent title contention.
