Is RGIII betraying his mentor by not backing Shedeur Sanders for the Heisman?

“If you take away all the bootlickers around him from [Robert Griffin III] on down, what does he have?”. You can hate Paul Finebaum as much as you want, but this time around, he has been spot-on about Deion Sanders and the Buffs. The same problems that we saw haunt the team back in 2023 are looming over them yet again in the 2024 season. At this point, it feels like Deion Sanders and his boys refuse to learn from their mistakes. The offensive line is still leaky at best and Coach Prime has already lost Shilo Sanders from the defense (because of a forearm injury), making it much worse. Now that the Prime Time empire has been pushed to the ground, the final betrayal comes from someone Deion never would have expected.

Robert Griffin III and Deion Sanders go way back. We saw how Coach Prime called up Griffin after his ESPN firing to console him. Now, on September 11th, Griffin has decided that he won’t be siding with Shedeur Sanders and Deion for his Heisman Front Runners list. From his official show Outta Pocket, Griffin shared his new list where we can spot Boise State RB Ashton Jeanty, followed by Syracuse QB Kyle McCord, then Miami QB Cam Ward, and finally Bulldogs QB Carson Beck and Longhorns QB Quinn Ewers. “Heisman Front Runners after Week 2,” RGIII noted in the caption of his post. There is no Shedeur Sanders this time around, folks, and it is quite understandable why. We had talked about how Shedeur and his attitude problem is a big issue for his team.

During the disastrous game against the Huskers, Shedeur decided to leave the turf early while 2 mins were still there on the clock. That guy just gave up. If that wasn’t enough, we also didn’t see any good plays from the QB during the game. The kryptonite had struck again. The average O-line allowed Shedeur to be sacked 5 times against Nebraska. The Buffs closed the game with 28-10 on the scoreboard and the Huskers established how strong they are despite having a freshman QB (Dylan Raiola). All of this does beg the question; what is next for Deion Sanders and his team?

The dream is crumbling for Deion Sanders and his boys

“[Deion Sanders] is all Hollywood,” Paul Finebaum had mentioned a few days back. Looks like it’s coming true. When we sit back and compare the Buffs’ current roster to the one they had last year, it feels like nothing has changed. Despite the NDSU game being the best reality check Deion could’ve ever gotten, he still refused to work with the team. The Huskers O-line was focused on taking Shedeur down and Deion still allowed his team to play in an open offensive position.

If they keep this up, then the Rams game on September 15th is going to be a disaster as well. ESPN’s Jordan Reid had made it very clear that Shedeur and his NFL drafts and the Heisman race will depend on the guy’s ability to perform on the field. Now we are seeing that he ain’t even getting a chance to perform. Huskers HC Matt Rhule exploited Deion’s offense so easily that it made the entire thing look so embarrassing. Imagine having some of the best players on your roster and you still cannot figure out how to protect your quarterback. Let’s pray the Buffs get their head in the game and finally fix things.
