And Kirk Herbstreit and other voices across the NFL mourn on the Browns’ big loss.

The Browns just lost a companion, Moose, their office dog and Hard Knocks star, at the age of 10. Leaving behind a void in the hearts of many. On April 3, the team shared the heartbreaking news through a 36-second montage that showcased Moose interacting with players, fans, and staff, highlighting the star icon that he was. “We’re sad to announce that Moose, our beloved office dog and Hard Knocks star, has passed away. We already miss your presence around the building, buddy 🧡,” they wrote. Even Kirk Herbstreit jumped in and shared his heartfelt condolence to the team, saying, “Very sorry for your loss 🙏🏼.”

Moose was more than just a pet; he is an important part of the team’s history. Born in September 2014, he was nearly 11 years old when he sadly passed on March 29. But how can we forget moments like his claim to fame coinciding with the turbulent 2018 HBO series, which not only introduced rookie Baker Mayfield to the world but also featured Hue Jackson’s infamous “QB2” announcement that quickly became viral meme material?

Well, Moose was a part of the Browns’ facility in Berea, where he resided around the clock, evolving from a mere mascot to a source of morale, a therapy companion, and an esteemed staff member. His presence on Hard Knocks during the Browns’ 2018 season was memorable, effortlessly stealing the spotlight in various scenes. One standout moment was a cute, heartwarming interaction with then-General Manager John Dorsey that resonated with all viewers.

But it hasn’t just been Moose. The Browns’ furry heartbreak started last year. When their live mascot SJ, a bullmastiff, died at just five years old. The Browns posted the saddening news on social media, saying, “We are sad to announce the passing of our beloved mascot, SJ. We are so grateful for his many years of loyal support and cherish all of the wonderful memories he helped create for fans young and old.” Although the team’s four-legged mascots have faced challenges, their enduring legacy is woven into the fabric of the franchise. And in their tough time, Kirk Herbstreit is not the only one standing by their side.
