Quinn Ewers took off the orange jersey after a stupendous five-year stint at Austin. The phenomenal QB has taken a lot of dips in the 2024 regular season, but he bounced back and led his team to a super competitive semi-final. However, amidst injury setbacks and growing Arch Manning comparisons, Ewers has seen the end of his tenure coming. The question was whether it would be an NFL call or a portal move. Putting all the doubt to rest, the kid declared he was going to get pro in 2025.
But at what cost? Did he just turn his back to a lump sum of money to reap his NFL dream? Let’s dig deeper into the QB phenom’s trademark career decision.
Is Quinn Ewers’ NFL decision looking naive?

Texas gave it to the Ohio State Buckeyes, but Ewers tried his best. Although he struggled a bit, completing just 23-of-39 passes for 283 yards and two touchdowns with an interception and a fumble sack, Coach Sarkisian couldn’t be more proud of his boy. Despite the injury horror, and the constant digs from fans, the way he showed up and made plays was nothing short of a prime example of resilience. Ewers finished 2024 with 3,472 yards and 31 touchdowns thrown compared to 12 interceptions.
Although there have been many doubts looming over his NFL stock, the big leagues aren’t likely to miss out on the value the Texas QB is capable of bringing despite a not-so-perfect season under the belt. Rather, it is Ewers who missed out on a lofty $8 million. According to 247Sports’ Chip Brown, Ewers received an $8 million offer from an unknown program to transfer from Texas.
Recently, All CFB made a poll to have people’s opinions on the hasty Quinn Ewers move. Not surprisingly, the poll showcased that the majority (70-30) believed Quinn would be wise to take the money and stay another year in college. Plenty of analysts, including RJ Young, vehemently opposed Quinn’s NFL move. Some of them dragged the Carson Beeck comparison to wake Ewers up about the fact that some QBs are making more money than they would make as a first-round draft pick in the NFL.
RJ Young pinpointed his stance, noting Quinn Ewers didn’t play a full, healthy season. So, he owes the team a more compact run, and another year in college will also give him the room to work on his exposed loopholes, such as frequent turnovers, bad plays, slow decision-making, and a few more.
But once it’s decided, it’s a lock. The former Texas QB won’t change his mind. The best he could do was to nourish and respect his sublime time with the program and remain a forever crazy Texas fan by heart.
Quinn Ewers emotional in his Texas farewell note
Football denotes much more than just some dry numbers on the scoreboard. It’s about the hustle to beat the opponent. It’s about the seamless symphony between teammates, it’s about the selfless sacrifice for the fellow athlete, it’s about the unbridled locker room banters and the pride they wear at every victory and the tears they cry after every letdown. Every little thing that made a sportsman transition from one home to another is irrationally painful.

‘My entire life,”‘ Ewers said. “I’ve dreamed about playing football on the 40 Acres. These past three years have been some of the best years I could have imagined. The relationships I built between coaches and teammates will last forever. I’m truly thankful for the opportunity to play football in my home state at the best university in the world. With prayer and careful consideration, I’m officially declaring for the NFL draft.”
Coach Sarkisian has never given up on his workhorse. Despite the last loss against Ohio State, Sarkisian appreciated how Quinn Ewers finished his game without a complaint, keeping his focus intact in the era of social media distractions. Texas head coach also mentioned how wonderful of a teammate he was.
After learning about Ewers moving to the NFL draft, Sarkisian reposted his emotive monologue on his social media handle, bidding a silent goodbye to one of the best in Longhorns’ history. Regardless of an 8 million debate, we hope the prized Texas boy will get where he wants to get always in his life. Rest, life is a series of hellos and goodbyes whatsoever.
