Guys, you are seeing the work of a magician! It’s time to talk about the Hoosiers’ 8-0 winning streak. The country’s top red-zone hitters! The players, led by Curt Cignetti, are at the center of this; they just defeated the Huskies 31-17. It is currently the most popular movie in Bloomington and ranks first on the Big Ten list. What’s even more amazing is Rece Davis’s recent recognition. He treats Curt Cignetti like he’s the boss.
On the podcast of ESPN’s College GameDay on October 29, Rece Davis claimed, “They are really good they have a lot of very good college football players they are really old and they are not going to Flinch much like the unflappable guy on the sideline and that is like a vexing puzzle a little bit here… to be 8-0 in college football is really hard”. In addition, he said, “I think they if I remember correctly I think it’s 1945 or somewhere in there they might have had an undefeated season of fewer games because of wartime and all of that or maybe and maybe they had a tie in there or something.”

IU is now rated 16th in the nation and hasn’t lost a game this season. Curt Cignetti, the head coach, is credited as being the catalyst for the triumph. And why not? In November 2023, Cignetti was hired by IU following his five-year term as head coach of the James Madison, which concluded with a 52-9 record. And you’ve noticed the progress since then!

Lee Corso, the former coach of Indiana from 1973 to 1982, made a special appearance on campus last Saturday as part of ESPN’s College GameDay show. Once the news broke, fans wondered if that Saturday would be his last performance on the show at the age of 89. In a mixed-emotional tweet, one fan reflected on Lee Corso’s lengthy and illustrious collegiate football career: “What a legend!“

In 1979, Corso had a fantastic season as head coach, leading the Hoosiers to an 8-4 record and a Holiday Bowl victory. His final record while attending Indiana was 41 victories, 68 defeats, and 2 draws. Since the squad won the Holiday Bowl in 1979, his leadership was particularly noteworthy.
What’s your perspective on:
Does Curt Cignetti's success diminish Lee Corso's legendary status at Indiana?
Have an interesting take?
Lee Corso, however, was unable to lead the team with an 8-0 record like Cignetti. The ‘Coach Cig’ period at Indiana appears to have been fantastic. In their next game against MI State, will they be able to continue their winning streak? We will see the outcome in a few days.
