Is Jalen Milroe the next Lamar Jackson, or is Kiper's comparison way off the mark?

Jalen Milroe has been hovering at the top quarterback position for a long time now. And after his remarkable play in the game against Georgia, where he threw for 374 yards, rushed for 117 yards, and secured four touchdowns, he has proven his passing abilities. No wonder he received the No. 1 ranking in the latest QB power rankings. Apart from that, an analyst, Rece Davis, said that Milroe is “crazy fast, and he is a mountain of a man.” Swipe down to know what else he has to say about Milroe.

Rece Davis has always been vocal in making bold remarks. Recently, in a candid conversation on ESPN College Football, he shared his predictions about the 2025 NFL draft quarterbacks who are making waves. Davis picked Quinn Ewers, Carson Beck, Cam Ward, and the emerging star Jalen Milroe as his top five picks for the future NFL draft. But to our surprise, Davis picked Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders as well for a potential No. 1 pick.

Alabama’s dual-threat powerhouse, Jalen Milroe, has every key factor in him being a top-tier NFL quarterback. Davis further pointed out Milroe’s improvement with each passing game. “Kalen DeBoer told me last week that Milroe had made great strides, particularly over the last week and a half,” Davis said about his candid conversation with Alabama’s head coach and how he sees Milroe.

Davis further expounded on Milroe’s game-winning performance in the game against Georgia, “I think the ball he threw to Ryan Williams, which turned out to be the game-winner, is an example of that. He threw it to the back shoulder, gave Williams a chance to get it, and trusted that it would work.” Davis explained why Milroe is so relevant in the game of football, saying that he has a crazy combination of size, speed, and arm strength that allows him to play like he does. He added that if Milroe aims to keep growing, he has to continue improving as a passer.

After discussing Jalen Milroe, Davis talked about his second choice for the No. 1 quarterback position, and that is Shedeur Sanders. “Shedeur has done nothing but improve every week, another analyst said; he got that natural ability to read defense and deliver accurate throws. There’s no denying he’s a playmaker.” While Sanders may lack the same raw athleticism as Milroe, his constant approach to the game makes him a perfect fit for the NFL. Though Milroe has received a lot of praise in the past few days, he has also attracted a lot of comparisons lately.

Jalen Milroe compared to Lamar Jackson

NFL draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr. recently said he sees Jalen Milroe as the top 2024 NFL prospect. He highlighted that Milroe has the potential to be an impressive contender in the NFL just the way Lamar Jackson has been doing in the league since he got drafted in 2018. Milroe is in his fourth year at Alabama and he has been with the program throughout his college career, unlike other college players who frequently transfer.

Is Jalen Milroe the next Lamar Jackson, or is Kiper's comparison way off the mark?

Have an interesting take?

Last season, Milroe showcased remarkable stats, especially highlighted by his touchdown-to-interception ratio of 33 touchdowns to only 7 interceptions. He gained recognition for his scoring ability on the ground, securing 20 rushing touchdowns.

However, Milroe still has a long way to go to be called the next Lamar Jackson because Lamar Jackson was exceptional during his collegiate career. In his last two years at Louisville, he threw for 57 touchdowns with 19 interceptions. On the ground, he rushed for 39 touchdowns and around 3200 yards. That kind of level is yet to be achieved by Milroe.
