The lowest score in 20 long years. Are we still letting a naysayer know? Kalen DeBoer and Co. are down the ditch yet again, and this time, it ain’t good. These guys recovered from Vandy and Vols’ loss, and the games against Mizzou and LSU were nothing but beautiful. Against an Oklahoma team who were 5-5 this year, did you think Kalen DeBoer and Co? Would lose THREE AND TWENTY-FOUR? Where was the pulse? Where was the offensive depth or even the defense that shook Mizzou and held Mercer at 7 points? In the center of it all, it ain’t Kalen DeBoer or Jalen Milroe who you should be blaming; it’s the offensive coordinator.
Back on The Matt Barrie Show, Matt Barrie points out the biggest mistake Nick Sheridan made going into this game. “We sat here, Paul, and we’re like finally, use Jalen Melroe as a runner. He’s the best athlete on the field. They tried to make him a thrower again last night,” Berrie pointed out. Every time you have pushed Milroe to throw and focus on the passing game, Jalen Milroe has gone 55% or barely 60% on completions. Dude has 15 touchdowns this year and more than half of them have come from rushing. USE HIM AS A RUSHER. “uh, I said, uh, Vanderbilt loss is the worst loss, and maybe in the history of Alabama. It’s possible this was worse (Sooners game),” Paul Finebaum added.

BUT NO. Milroe went for 26 attempted passes this game and landed only 11. Dude barely covered around 164 yards, and the entire Bama offense was all over the place. Another conversation that is going to arise from this is what the Sooners did to curb Milroe’s rush game, but it makes no sense.
In hindsight, while it might look like Sheridan made the right call and played Milroe as a passer, playing with his strength, focusing on the rush, and providing the dude enough protection inside the pocket is still the better option. But here, we are with Milroe being sacked once and throwing 3 total interceptions.
It was a full-blown meltdown for the Bama offense. Yeah, you can point your guns at Milroe, the O-line also allowed around eight pressures during the night. And if this wasn’t enough, there were a ton of drops that could’ve been prevented if only the QB had protection. 3 points on the board from a team that has one of the best stats when it comes down to offensive depth. And boy, oh boy, how can we miss out on the defense?

Did Alabama's coaching staff sabotage their own game by not playing to Jalen Milroe's strengths?

The Crimson Tide defense was a shell of its former self
Okay, let’s clarify one thing. Whatever Kane Wommack has done to the D-line is nothing short of beautiful. Jihaad Campbell and Malachi Moore are both disrupters who have made the D-line a force to reckon with. Held back Mizzou at 0 points and didn’t even allow LSU or Mercer to run the football. Fast forward to the Sooners game and well, what even is this?
Just like the Vandy game, Oklahoma tried out the same old triple-option running, and it worked out. QB Jackson Arnold was in the center of it all, bringing in 131 yards on the rushing. The Tide had nothing to answer the rush game Oklahoma played.

This entire pre-snap motion and the confusion, causing gaps in the defense, comes from an offensive line that is literally ranked at the bottom on the national level. And let’s not even forget about the turnovers these guys managed to create. See, the Tide is off the playoffs and nothing is gonna change that. Going into the Iron Bowl against Auburn, Nick Sheridan, and Kane Wommack are gonna be on the hot seat. For what it’s worth, a win against the Tigers who are coming off hot against a 43-41 rampage against A&M is probably the only shot at redemption.
