The past few days have been hard for Florida Gators head coach Billy Napier, as there were rumors that the program was trying to get rid of him. We even heard about the Gators paying him the remaining 85% of his deal. After that, a few names, such as Lane Kiffin, surfaced online as possible replacements. Everyone thought Kiffin would be the new face of the Gators. However, putting an end to all those rumors, the Gators AD Scott Stricklin revealed his plan to stay loyal to Napier on November 7. The Gators AD’s decision ignited a fire among college football experts, and Brandon Walker didn’t mince his words when calling him out.
Walker, who likes to call himself a ‘barstool sports superstar,’ reacted to this news on his Instagram handle on November 7. In clear words, he blamed Stricklin, who just defended Billy Napier even after knowing the poor 4-4 current record. Walker started by saying, “This is sad. Sad post to make. The Florida Gators was a once-proud program that competed for the national championships. Won in 96, won in 2006, won in 2008. This is a program that should be competing for the national championship. They are no longer a serious college football program. It is a joke what they have become. ”

After which he jumped on to point out the man who was behind the current pathetic state of the gators. “Today, their “athletic director, Scott Stricklin, announced that Billy Napier, the coach who is 4-4 this year and 15-19 or something like that in his three years, will be returning next season despite the fact they’re going to go at 6-6. Wry best. They’re going to give him a fourth year. Billy Napier is one of the worst coaches in the country and certainly the worst coach in the Southeastern Conference. And I don’t even think it’s really close.”
Well, there you have it. All the arrows aiming for Napier’s head have now found a new target in Stricklin, and why not? Big programs raise expectations with their decision. Here, the Gators see no need to improve on mediocrity, and naturally, it is irking fans. What could be the reason?

Walker pointed out one possible reason why the AD might be keeping Billy Napier, and that’s DJ Lagway. Because Napier recruited Lagway and they have a strong relationship, Lagway might leave the program if Napier does, Walker pointed out as a reason for the AD keeping Napier. As per Walker, this kind of thinking is ridiculous. Now Lagway also shared his thoughts about the news of Napier’s return for the 2025 season.

QB DJ Lagway’s reaction to HC Billy Napier
Before Lagway’s reaction, first look at Scott Scticklin’s official statement, where he said, “I’m confident that Billy will meet the challenges and opportunities ahead.” Woof! Isn’t it weird to see it happen? Especially after Billy Napier’s back-to-back failures with the program. They lost their first 17-41 game to Miami, then lost a 20-33 game to Texas A&M, after which they lost a 17-23 game to Tennessee. At last, they lose a 20-34 game against Georgia on November 3, 2024.

Napier’s rookie quarterback, DJ Lagway, started three games this season following Graham Mertz’s injury on September 7, when he threw for 456 yards and scored three touchdowns. Later in the game, Tennessee took the starting position completely after Mertz tore his ACL.
Disappointingly, Lagway was also benched because of an injury in the game against Georgia, and Aiden Warner took his place. As of now, it’s not certain whether Lagway will play in the upcoming game against Texas or not. Besides that, the QB shared a story on Instagram reacting to Napier’s return by putting a smile emoji along with two Gators and too many exclamation marks!
