If there’s one thing Pat McAfee knows how to do, it’s go big. Whether it’s dropping hot takes on ESPN, throwing wild punts back in his NFL days, or, apparently, popping the question, the frat-king doesn’t do small. And his wife, Samantha McAfee, shares a loving tribute to her husband on their anniversary. But before we get into the heartwarming details, let’s set the scene—because McAfee’s love life is just as electric as his sports commentary.

On February 9th, Samantha took to her Instagram story to mark six years of marriage with a post that had fans feeling all kinds of emotions. She shared a clip from their engagement—yeah, the one where Pat had a whole helicopter touch down by a Hawaiian waterfall just to ask her to be his “forever roommate.” If that ain’t peak McAfee, what is? She captioned it, “6 years ago on a waterfall in Hawaii, Pat asked me to be his forever roommate. Cheers to us.” And just like that, the internet was back on the McAfee love train.

Now, let’s rewind to that iconic moment in 2019. Samantha had no clue her life was about to change when she jetted off to Hawaii for her annual post-football season getaway with Pat McAfee. The man played it cool—coffee plantation visits, a little volcano action, some whale watching, just casual vacation flexes. But then came the curveball. A helicopter ride over a rainforest took a sudden and unexpected turn.

“He surprised me by having the pilot land at the base of the biggest waterfall I have personally ever seen,” Samantha wrote on their engagement anniversary. “As we were taking a cute photo at the waterfall, it was at that moment my boyfriend became my fiancé.” Talk about setting the bar unrealistically high for the rest of us. McAfee later spilled his own thoughts on Instagram, saying he ran through 15 different future scenarios, and Samantha was in every single one. “I realized I didn’t want a life without you in it.” Boom. Straight out of a rom-com, only real life.

Fast forward to August 1, 2020—Pat and Samantha made it official. A year later, they were living the dream, and by 2023, they had their first daughter, Mackenzie. While Pat’s out here securing the bag at ESPN and clowning around with the GameDay crew, Samantha’s holding it down with her own non-profit, proving that power couples really do exist.

Now, McAfee may be one of the biggest voices in college football media, but when he met Shedeur, he switched it up and came through like a fan. “Hey, I punted in the NFL, man,” McAfee joked. Then, straight to the real talk. “Big fan. How you feeling? Can’t wait to watch where you go. You’re the man.”

McAfee didn’t stop there. He hit Shedeur with the ultimate respect: “You are tough. I like that. You getting your a– beat and standing right up and then, like, talking s–t about it. I respect you. You’re a dog.” That’s the kinda respect you can’t fake. McAfee sees what we all see—the NFL QB1 for either the Browns or Titans.
