Quarterbacks are usually some of the most sought-after positions going into the NLF draft every year. We’ve seen this happen in the NFL time and time again, over the years. In the 2024 draft, six quarterbacks were selected in the first round. 2023 had 3 QBs, 2021 had 5, and 2020 again had 3 QBs. Moreover, teams almost always select QBs with the first pick in the first round. But can we say the same about the 2025 draft class?

Many analysts widely consider the 2025 draft class to lack strong QB talent. The only two players touted to go in the first round as QB are Shedeur Sanders and Cam Ward. Moreover, other QBs like Tyler Shough and Jalen Milroe are said to be a later-round pick. So, in a sense, this class might cast a dark cloud over the quarterbacks at Green Bay, Wisconsin. One of the QBs has tragically suffered a more tumultuous fate early on.

The player is the former Longhorns signal caller Quinn Ewers. Undoubtedly, Ewers’s team had some of the best games last year with Steve Sarkisian taking them to the semifinals. Quinn Ewers, on the other hand, was in the news for not-so-favorable reasons.

The injury Quinn Ewers suffered, which led to young Arch Manning stepping up, became one of the most talked-about topics in Houston. And, it was even said that Ewers didn’t perform at the same levels after coming back from the injury. Some of the same concerns have depleted his draft stock to an all-time low now.

As per a recent mock draft by ESPN analyst Mel Kiper, the QB hasn’t even found a place in the second round of the draft. The mock draft has Cam Ward as the no.1 pick in the first round going to the Titans, followed by Travis Hunter going to the Cleveland Browns. Adul Carter has the third pick going to the NY Giants. Then there is Will Campbell going to the Patriots at no.4 with the first round ending with James Pearce Jr. going to the Eagles.

Another QB who has found a spot in the first round is just Shedeur Sanders going to the New Orleans Saints, on the 9th pick. The second round then becomes interesting. It features Tyler Shough going as the 33rd pick to the Browns and Jalen Milroe at 34th to the Giants. That’s it—no other quarterback is selected in the first two rounds, including Quinn Ewers. This may come as a shock to many, and here’s why.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Quinn Ewers the next Tom Brady, or just another overhyped QB falling short of expectations?

Quinn Ewers’ depleting draft stock the effect of pro-day performance?

Earlier Ewers was touted to go to the New Orleans Saints as Jeff Howe of ‘On Texas Football’ also pointed it earlier. He said that Kellen Moore would be the perfect coach for Ewers to make the start. Furthermore, with Derek Carr not having too much gas left in his tank, Ewers was touted to be a long-term solution. But that seems to be fading away. But why the downgrade?

Well, it all connects to the Pro-Day performance Ewers had that didn’t impress many scouts and analysts. CJ Vogel on the podcast with Jeff Howe gave a harsh take on Ewers’ performance. “The deep ball wasn’t there, but everything else in between is going to be where it needs to be. Now is that technique, is that just strength, is that just not having it mentally? I don’t know. I don’t have the answers for you, I wish I did, but we’d be talking about a different quarterback over the last two or three years“.

Although the statement comes with a bit of an optimism since Ewers has the potential to perform better at NFL. But the point is, there are still too many blank spaces when it comes to his processing speed and ability to read and adjust to rotating defenses. Most of all, there are lingering concerns about his injury history. All this points to a classic case where scouts don’t favor a player. But wait, there’s a catch.

Quinn Ewers seems unmoved by the recent media speculation. In a recent statement, the QB declared his talent in some bold words. “I think I’m the best [in the class] and the most ready for the NFL because of what I’ve been through“. The statement is garnering Tom Brady-like comparisons, as ‘The Mirror’ reported recently.

Brady also faced a situation similar to Ewers, as teams passed on him in the first and second rounds and only drafted him in the sixth. The NFL GOAT declared his talent confidently to Patriots’ owner, Robert Kraft, beforehand. “Hi, I’m Tom Brady. And I’m the best decision this organization has ever made. You’ll never regret picking me”. Well, Kraft might have made his best decision by trusting Brady, as Brady lined up Super Bowl wins like shopping at Walmart. Can Ewers have the same trajectory?

On the other hand, Shedeur Sanders, who was also struggling with depleting draft stock, has support in Mel Kiper’s mock draft. Furthermore, the analyst also said in clear words, “Cam Ward going number one. That gets Shedeur down to New Orleans“. That essentially fixes the place for Shedeur Sanders. But questions still remain about Quinn Ewers’ fate in the NFL Draft, especially now that Sanders has taken his projected spot with the Saints.
