Quinn Ewers arrived in Austin with sky-high expectations. We’re talking first perfect-rated QB since Vince Young, transferring from Ohio State to bring Texas back to the big time. And you know what? He delivered. 21-5 record, Big 12 title, back-to-back playoff appearances. He didn’t just play QB; he basically put Texas back on the map, nationally. Glory days, for sure. But, and there’s always a but, right? Ankle sprain, oblique tear—his final college season got a bit messy. Now, though, it’s a whole new chapter. And his NFL future? Yeah, that’s taking a pretty sharp turn.

Ewers sits 4th in ESPN’s QB rankings. But the irony is that he is the first quarterback on Matt Miller’s mock draft list to not rank among the top 50 prospects. And even many such mocks peg him as a Day 3 pick, likely in the 4th or 5th round. Well, that’s a tough spot for a former five-star talent. But the story isn’t over. The Combine gave him a shot to flip the script, and scouts took notice. And now, First Round Pick’s latest X post says it all: “The plot thickens.” Translation: Ewers’ draft stock is moving fast and his NFL future just got a whole lot more interesting.

According to FRP’s X post, “I have maintained a first-round grade on Quinn Ewers the past two seasons.” That’s straight from Daniel Kelly, who gave Ewers a final first-round grade for the 2025 NFL Draft. Well, back in May 2024, a whopping 74.2% of the draft community saw Ewers as a first-rounder. Then, by January 28, that number dipped to 29.4%—but Kelly never wavered. And he’d take Ewers in Round 1 without hesitation. As of now, with the draft approaching and momentum shifting, could Ewers make a late climb? Not sure.

However, the interest in Quinn Ewers is growing. CBS Sports reported that the Indianapolis Colts met with the Texas QB at the Combine. Not only this, FRP even tweeted, “Ideal pick for the Colts at No. 14.” But they weren’t the only ones watching. The Titans, Saints, Jaguars, Raiders, and Jets all sat down with him. And here’s the kicker—Steelers HC Mike Tomlin had a meeting with Ewers too. Now teams are circling, and his draft stock might be climbing at just the right time.

To be honest, Quinn Ewers might be the biggest steal of the 2025 NFL Draft. According to NFL writer John Frascella, “multiple teams are hoping and waiting to land him after a poised and professional Combine performance. Some evaluators even believe he’s “equal or better than” Shedeur Sanders—the expected No. 2 QB in the draft.” But here’s where it gets interesting. Teams are hanging back, staying quiet, and trying not to draw attention. But why? Because they believe Ewers is massively undervalued. So, the chess game has begun, and the question is—who will make the move?

Here one thing is certain—whoever lands Quinn Ewers is getting a game-changer. As John Frascella put it best, writing, “Looks like a pro’ for sure.” And while scouts see it and teams know it, Ewers’ girlfriend had something to say too. After his standout Combine, she sent a one-word message.

Girlfriend’s one-word take on Quinn Ewers

Quinn Ewers gave the world a glimpse of the talent that once made him a top prospect. Well, on Saturday, he took the field at Lucas Oil Stadium alongside QBs, RBs, and WRs. And while under the bright lights, he delivered—hitting 16 of 22 passes; there were a few early misses and some struggles on out routes to the right. But his deep throws had precision and were effortlessly catchable. Safe to say, it was a statement, and the league took notice.

Ian Rapoport, an NFL insider, observed this. And he hit social media with a simple but telling post, writing, “Quinn Ewers had exactly the day he was hoping to have. A really nice performance.” Not only this, Ewers felt it too. So, after his strong showing, he posted photos and a video from the event with a laid-back caption, “How bout that?” But the best reaction? His girlfriend, Madelyne Barnes kept it short and sweet, dropping a one-word message, “Slay👏👏.”

And Ewers has the resume to back it up. See, three seasons at Texas and two CFP semifinal runs. On top of that, in 2024, he recorded 3,472 yards with a 65.8% completion rate. So, the Combine may have been just another step—but it was a big one. As of now, Luke Easterling of Athlon Sports ranks Quinn Ewers as the 5th-best QB in the 2025 draft. But rankings don’t write history—Draft Day does.
