Finally, Quinn Ewers gets a chance to fly high in the pro-league, leaving behind those injury-filled seasons at Texas. Thing is, that dream of being the top pick? Yeah, that’s probably a no-go. The QB was a 5-star phenom once, but his draft stock’s been on a rollercoaster, and not the fun kind.
He got blown away the past season, which left him with a lingering oblique injury. That’s why he was not widely viewed as a first-round pick. But things are likely to take shape on a positive note after an NFL insider confirmed the QB’s fate. Meanwhile, Ewers seems to have caught the attention of the $5.3 billion NFL giant.

Is Quinn Ewers climbing up the ladder?
One oblique injury that he suffered while playing against UTSA turned out to be the biggest antagonist in Ewers’ story. The last nail came with him missing the Senior Bowl. That’s when he was projected as a Day 2 or Day 3 pick, which meant he was believed to be going in between rounds 4 and 7. But buckle up, folks! Here comes some good news for Ewers, as he now falls under the radar of the NFL giant with the No.1 pick, Tennessee.

On February 27, NFL Rookie Watch posted, “Quinn Ewers has reportedly been receiving “significant interest” from several people within the Titans and Colts organizations.” Both the Tennessee Titans and the Indianapolis Colts have relatively early picks in the 2nd round. To them, Ewers can be a good addition to their “perfect project QB.” But what made the QB’s stocks hit the accelerator? Well, here the NFL insider Field Yates has a big role to play.
On the Pat McAfee Show, he evaluated Ewers on a different scale. While the QB does not have cannon arms, his torque and frame make up for it. Plus, not to forget his natural leadership skills. While Yates discussed Ewers’ strengths, he dropped the bold comment. “This would be a good week for Quinn…feels like round three for Quinn but that could be influenced a lot by not just the interview this week but also the medical evaluations.” Now where does Ewers stand in the recovery process?
Turns out that Ewers was actually injured one week earlier in the Longhorns’ Week 2 win over Michigan in Ann Arbor. As NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero confirmed, “I’m told that (Ewers) is fully recovered now from a torn oblique that he played with basically this entire season. It happened in the Michigan game. It got worse over the course of time, but he is healthy now. His weight is up to about 215 pounds.” Now this news might be making the $5.3 billion franchise, the Pittsburgh Steelers, the happiest.

Mike Tomlin and Co. are putting in some serious efforts to land the Longhorns QB. As per the reports, the Steelers held a formal Combine interview with Ewers. Ewers is battling it out for that second-tier QB spot. Even ESPN’s Matt Miller’s got him at No. 4 for quarterbacks, right behind Cam Ward, Shedeur Sanders, and Jaxson Dart. But even with that QB climb, he’s totally missing from the top 50 overall prospects. Wild, right? Makes you wonder what’s got the Steelers looking his way. Well, probably that Nate Joshko scouting report!

The analyst highlighted the QB’s veteran presence, quick release, and anticipatory throwing ability. However, his inconsistency in downfield accuracy and being prone to taking bad sacks also did make it to the report. Well, the most likely scenario for Pittsburgh is to bring back Russell Wilson or Justin Fields. But in case they have their eyes on the future, Ewers can be an option.

Since the Steelers are likely out of reach for the top quarterbacks in this year’s draft, they’ll probably snag one on Day 2. Beyond his athleticism, Quinn Ewers impresses with his football IQ, which could be a real breath of fresh air for the NFL. And if Pittsburgh decides to let him learn behind a veteran starter, he’ll get plenty of time to develop.
