Is Steve Sarkisian too dependent on Quinn Ewers? Let’s talk about that SEC title game. Texas was so close to closing this one off with a win. Sarkisian finally got his redemption game against Georgia. How can the boys on the roster let it go? 2nd quarter in and Texas is up 6-3. Then tell us why Quinn Ewers threw in 2 interceptions and Texas somehow started trailing behind UGA at 13-16 in the 4th quarter. Keep in mind that Georgia’s offense was shaky. They just weren’t the same team they were during the 30-15 win over Texas during the regular season game. And to top it all off, even Carson Beck had to be taken out of the game because of his arm injury.

How can you not win this game as Quinn Ewers? “Some of the mistakes he makes, bro, I’m like what?…. I’m probably sure there are a lot of people in Austin that’s thinking if we put Arch Manning in there, we win that game,” Shannon Sharpe pointed out on the latest episode of Nightcap. Before we criticize Ewers, we also gotta keep in mind that this guy is still dealing with his injury. What Sark really should’ve done is give this guy some rest during the second half of the Kentucky game. Regardless, with that ankle problem in mind, it ain’t no doubt why Ewers couldn’t run the football.

But then this brings us to another dilemma. When Sark knows that his QB1 is facing some problems, why not use Arch Manning? It’s not like Manning hasn’t already proved himself, right? Remember the Roadrunners game? Yeah, it was an easy team to play against, but Arch pulled in 5 touchdowns (4 passing and 1 rushing). How many times have you seen a backup QB do that?

Then back-to-back games against MS State and Warhawks, and this guy was still on fire. 2 touchdowns in each of the games and averaged more than 200 yards. Yeah, Manning did throw 2 interceptions against ULM but it’s fine. When you have an offensive weapon, why not use it?

Go back to the Bulldogs SEC gam,e and you’ll see that Ewers was all over the place. Landing only 27 out of 46 passes? As an elite QB? Yeah, he covered over 350 yards, but was it even worth it? He didn’t stand a chance against the UGA defense. All of this does make you wonder if Texas is even prepped to tackle the playoff run or not.

Against Clemson and Arizona State

On paper, the Longhorns’ road to the natty looks considerably easy. That SEC game loss somehow managed to become a massive jackpot for Sarkisian, and he landed his first round of playoff game against the Clemson Tigers.

Not only that. If they win against the Tigers, they will be facing off against the Sun Devils in the semifinal round. But then again, will these games be as easy as Texas fans think? See, we have to go back to the entire Ewers and Manning dilemma.

The Quinn Ewers magic just ain’t there anymore, and Sark is too hard stuck on playing Manning on the field. This does not bode a good scenario for the Clemson game. Yeah, the Tigers got a lucky win over SMU with that final FG, but then again, Dabo Swinney ain’t facing the same problems as Sark.

And how could we forget the Devils? Those guys have been on a massive run as well, and if we are to go off of their Big 12 title game, then offensively? they will be a pain to deal with. Even Kenny Dillingham‘s defense has started to step up and with the rest they are getting, they could make things hard for Texas.

Sark better figure out his QB situation. Else, he might end up losing both Ewers and Manning.
