Is the media being too harsh on Julian Lewis just because of CU Buffs speculation?

Everyone wants Julian Lewis on the team. However, looks like out of all the people, the media has the most hatred towards Juju joining Colorado. While still committed to USC, Juju has managed to draw a heck lot of eyes on him. The kid managed to land the Most Accurate Passer title from Elite11. Not only that, back in the 2023 season, Juju managed to pull in more than 40 TDs and around 2 interceptions. He already has 3000+ yards under his belt and a completion rate of 66%. It ain’t no wonder why he is in high demand. However, him being associated with Deion Sanders and his team was probably the one factor that pushed the 5-star down to 4-star.

On 2Legendary with Shedeur Sanders on September 4th, Shedeur Sanders and Deion Sanders Jr. get real regarding Juju’s rating. “How did they drop you to a four-star though?” Shedeur noted. 247Sports and On3 have dropped Lewis from a 5-star QB to a 4-star QB. This happened right after the entire CU Buffs speculation took off. Back on July 11th, an account on X noted,  “Julian Lewis has dropped Julian Lewis’s ranking to a 4⭐️ After winning most consistent in the elite 11 camp.” This entire thing is wild. “This is just pure hatred,” Deion Jr. mentioned. During the video, Lewis noted that the sole reason his rating went down was because, according to the media, he had reached his potential and the rankings had to balance him out. This makes no sense because Lewis is only around 16-17 years old. He hasn’t even touched his peak.

This makes Coach Prime’s theory about him and his camp so much more real. Deion Sanders had posted on X, “To whom it may concern, if you desire to come play for us @CUBuffsFootball they may drop your HS rankings.” To think that people from On3 and 247Sports would be this salty over a kid wanting to join the Buffs is wild. However, this ain’t even the first time the media has decided to slash a player’s ranking because they decided to join Coach Prime.

Travis Hunter was quite literally the top recruit back in 2022. The dude was 5-star all across the board. However, despite being the No.1 overall player in CFB, his rating dropped to No.8 the moment he announced his commitment to Colorado. Hunter had a composite rating of 99.56 from On3 and all of that was washed down the drain when On3 decided to put him on rank 20 on the list of Top 100 Players in CFB.

While we still don’t know where this entire animosity comes from, we do have an idea that despite a drop in rankings, Juju will still probably end up with the Buffs. Back on August 3rd, Philip Dukes mentioned, “If I had to make a bet right now, I think Colorado has a lot of momentum.” Deion Sanders right now has the highest potential to grab Lewis on his team and if he manages to get that done, then he will find the perfect replacement for Shedeur Sanders after he leaves for the 2025 NFL. For now, we gotta wait for more commitment news.
