Life hasn’t been easy for Jimmy Horn Jr., whose father has had to see his meteoric rise from behind bars. One of the leading forces behind the Colorado Buffaloes’ success last season now has to make rounds between college and the penitentiary for his father’s potential acquittal. Deion Sanders ends up coming across as a bit too confident or full of himself at times, but his care and concern for his players has never been in doubt. Thus, the Colorado HC made sure to let his player know that he stood with him during this crucial time and did the unthinkable good deed for him. In all his might, Deion Sanders stood in front of the camera and made a plea to the authorities, urging them to reunite the father-son duo as soon as possible. Additionally, he commended Jimmy Horn Sr. for his repentance.

On 14th August, Deion made the warmest gesture for Jimmy Horn Jr. as well as his father by doing something no college football coach has probably ever done before. Jimmy Horn Jr., the WR for the Colorado Buffaloes, left the campus to visit his father in prison but what he didn’t anticipate was the endearing video that Deion released in his absence as a plea to the court officials and the public that are observing this case closely.

Deion began his video statement with the words, “Your Honour” in the hopes of it reaching the right pair of eyes. He was heard making Jimmy Horn Sr.’s case on behalf of his son and said, “I just want to tell you candidly that I’m praying for Jimmy. Horn. Sr who’s been incarcerated for a multitude of years. I’ve talked to Jimmy Horn. senior and truly, he has repented of what has transpired.” The father of the Colorado WR was imprisoned on drug-related grounds, though the details of his charges weren’t released to the public. The entirety of the Buffs’ fans will join hands with Deion in making sure that Horn Sr. gets the justice he deserves and hopefully gets to witness his son make waves as a mighty player for the Buffaloes. With that being said, let’s take a look at the close-knit relationship that Jimmy Horn Jr. shares with Deion, which according to the WR, is just like his “pops”.

Deion is a second father-like figure to Jimmy Horn Jr.

The first week of Deion being the official head coach for the Colorado Buffaloes, was through and through the epitome of their success. Though it’s a saddening situation that they were never able to reach that peak again during the 2023 season, some of the moments from the aftermath of all the joy have stuck with Colorado fans to date. More so than that, the enthusiasm that Jimmy Horn Jr. and Deion shared, fits perfectly into the situation that has arisen today.

During their debut game against the TCU Horned Frogs, 4 of the Buffs’ receivers broke the 100-yard barrier in the game. While this could’ve set the precedent for a dominant season up ahead, the team failed to be consistent with such a performance. Later, after the game, the players were boarding the plane when Jimmy offered the phone to Deion to speak to his father in prison. It was unbelievably tragic that Jimmy Horn Sr. couldn’t see his son record a career-high of 11 receptions, but a conversation with Coach Prime relieved some of those feelings.

After the conversation between his father and Deion, Jimmy Horn Jr. was heard saying, “Coach Prime is a man of his word. My pops is a man of his word. That’s why it’s only right that I’m here. Coach Prime reminds me so much of my pops. And then when I heard them talk and my dad was really happy to talk to him. (Sanders) is taking care of me, making sure I’m good mentally, physically and emotionally.” Thus, the equation that Deion shares with his players is nothing short of admirable. Despite not seeing a lot of success in the gridiron, the friendships and the bonds that have developed within the team might just prove to be their biggest strength when they step into this season with all the hopes of redemption.
