Rich Homie Quan's death at 34—how does this impact the sports and music communities?

On September 5, the music world woke up to the shocking news of the death of rapper Rich Homie Quan. Since the news came to the fore, Quan has received condolences from across industries. The list of personalities consoling the bereaved family also includes the legend of the football field, Deion Sanders, the current head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes. Sanders posted his condolences on social media and recalled his last moments with the rapper.

On his official X account, Deion described his grief on hearing the news and paid his condolences, by saying, “Lord, that news regarding @RichHomieQuan hurt. I just spoke to my brother a couple of weeks ago,” “Will someone from the family please reach my son @DeionSandersJr. We’re praying for y’all”, Sanders wrote. 

Rich Homie Quan’s real name was Radric Delantic Davis. He was famous as a hip-hop artist. From Atlanta, Georgia, he first hit stardom with songs such as ‘Type of Way’ and ‘Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh).’ Due to his unique voice and good song hooks, many people loved Quan’s songs. Critics and fans equally loved his body of work.

Quan was outgoing and, charitable. He talked about his contribution to community services and volunteered in some of them. His sudden passing is a significant loss to his fans and those who knew him personally.

Rich Homie Quan was family to Deion Sanders

Deion added on his X account that they had just brought about the fact that Quan is a father of a son who is very engaged in youth football. Sanders had expected to come across them at the next game. “They were gonna come to a game,” Sanders said.

Deion Sanders’ tribute to Rich Homie Quan mentions the relationship that the two families shared, especially the footballing connection between these personalities of distinctive industries. Sanders had recently talked to Quan, and their conversation applied a warm introduction of Quan’s son, who has been participating in youth football. Plans of Sanders to meet them at the game now serve as a reminder of their relationship. 

It is thus clear that Sanders’ message was the loss of not only an artist but of a man who appreciated people and mutual endeavours. We have now learnt that Quan was indeed a family man. The plea for Quan’s family to contact his own son, Deion Sanders Jr., is another example of the admiration, regard, and empathy that Sanders had for Quan. More people have joined with their tributes at this shocking event. We are slowly learning the depth of influence and imprint Quan left on the world.
