Is Shilo Sanders a victim of nepotism, or does he have the talent to prove critics wrong?

Coach Prime and the Buffs faced a challenging week after a series of consecutive wins, and when everything was just going right for them, the Jayhawks successfully stopped their winning streak and defeated them by 37-21. Now the defeat has raised significant concerns surrounding Deion’s son Shilo’s performance. While the whole team looked off-color, Shilo was particularly called out on a day when the defense didn’t have any answers for the Jayhawks’ Jalon Daniels and Devin Neal. He had several penalties, missed tackles in the red zone and was hapless throughout.

Before the game, Deion tried to cheer his son and took to Instagram to motivate him and wrote, “Let’s go, baby. Proud of you, son.” Ahh! This did not go in his favor, and criticism got louder, and he again got spammed with the word Shedeur has been fighting for a long time—NEPO. However, this did not stop his mother from rooting for him, and she dropped a consoling message for her beloved son after the recent backlash.

Pilar posted an animation of Shilo, which mentioned Shilo’s career high of 13 tackles and 7 solo tackles. To encourage him, she captioned it, “Congrats son! 🎉🗣️👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽Great job @shilosanders #proudmom #bigshilo #big21 #21 #headachegang #shilosanders #gobuffs #footballmom vs. Kansas” Well, this is not the first time Pilar is defending her son.

Will he make his parents proud next week? This season, Shilo was out of the picture in the first few games because of his injury, although he has displayed some good performance throughout the year. Talking about the stats, he has made 42 tackles and one fumble recovery.

which tells us that he is a good player at defence; it is just that he is going through a rough patch. Let’s see how the fans reacted to his performance.

Shilo Sanders faced nepo accusations after poor performance in week 13

Who thought that the Buffs would struggle in week 13 despite having some top players? As we mentioned, Shilo was poor. Of course, it’s such a key game, and you’re playing the legendary Arrowhead Stadium, but you can’t let the emotions get hold of you. The game saw everything from Shilo that a defender shouldn’t do. A 1st and 10, and Shilo, in trying to blitz the quarterback, crossed the line of scrimmage before the ball was snapped. An offside, and it became 1st and 5. And then Neal took over, and the whole drive became useless for the Buffs.

Is Shilo Sanders a victim of nepotism, or does he have the talent to prove critics wrong?

Have an interesting take?

Even on occasions where Shilo did his job and stopped the play from advancing, his unnecessary acts worked against the team. Naturally, the fans were delighted when he got a targeting call from the refs. If proven, it would have meant that he would tossed out of the game. However, an official review found that it wasn’t targeting, and Shilo (unfortunately, for the Buffs) remained in the game.

The whole Nepo discourse is, to be frank, useless. It’s a stick to beat up Sanders brothers. However, as you may have noticed, that stick does not work on Sheduer. With scouts saying that he’d be the first QB picked in the 2025 NFL Draft, calling him a nepo baby is just a thoughtless exercise. However, it does work on Shilo because the elder brother on the team is yet to show why he should be in the defense every week. Moreover, we have seen Shedeur and Shilo dreaming about playing in the NFL. With performances like this, Shilo can keep dreaming.
