Georgia’s season started like a wobbly cart, with struggles at QB and fans questioning if they’d lost their edge. Now things have come to a certain position where Carson Beck and Quinn Ewers are drawing comparisons due to their inconsistent performances. But then these guys suffered injuries and had a tough run. Doesn’t that count? And fast forward: Georgia’s looking like they’ve sorted their mess. The Bulldogs have made significant improvements; with Beck out of the playoffs, they are now back in contention. Their turnaround has even caught the attention of Paul Finebaum.

Look, this season is all about surprises. Either it’s Michigan winning against the Buckeyes or Vandy pulling off an upset against Alabama—the real question is what happens next. So, here we have ESPN’s Paul Finebaum to make another solid remark on teams, their gameplay, and whatnot. This time it’s the Dawgs and their future against Notre Dame we are talking about. As Paul Finebaum says, “I like Georgia with a slight edge, but you have to be worried about Gunner Stockton. I can’t tell you that everything is fine; you lost a guy. I don’t think Carson Beck is related to Quinn Ewers, but they’ve had a similar year—up and down.”

However, Paul Finebaum is not entirely wrong. In Georgia’s title game, Beck barely covered 71 yards with a turnover and interception. But even then, the team was holding its own against Texas’s defense and offense. Then, Carson Beck’s desperate Hail Mary attempt resulted in a pretty bad hit by a Longhorns rusher. Now, that hit will keep him out of the Notre Dame game. However, isn’t losing your starting QB a matter of concern? Well, Kirby Smart already has his game plan ready.

Let’s get straight into Georgia’s game against the Longhorns after the team lost Carson Beck. The QB who saved them from misery is Gunner Stockton! He came and pushed their offense hard enough for them to make it to the end zone until Beck could come and make the final move of handling the football to their star running back, Trevor Etienne, for a 4-yard overtime win. All this exactly proves Finebaum’s words: “Talking to Kirby Smart Saturday morning, he feels pretty confident. I think he’s confident because Etienne is healthy, which is a big factor.”

See, Carson Beck had inconsistencies, made big mistakes, and gave away 12 picks to the defense in just five games into the season. But then you can’t ignore the fact that he is the guy who pushed Kirby Smart’s team to the playoffs. So you can compare him with Quinn Ewers, but both of their teams are pretty much in the playoffs.

What’s your perspective on:

Can Georgia's team effort outshine Notre Dame's strong defense without Carson Beck leading the charge?

Have an interesting take?

Both the QBs have serious interception issues! Ewers has thrown 10 picks, and Beck has thrown 12. This season has been a real interception fest for them. Also, the lack of big plays is contributing to a lousy offense. But then Texas won against the Tigers, with Ewers starting the game and Beck having his redemption against Tennessee. Now the question is, without Carson Beck, do the Dawgs really hold any chance?

Doubts rising over Kirby Smart’s Dawgs

It’s not even New Year’s Eve, and the Bulldogs’ game is a loud, chaotic mess. Looks like it’s not the right time to be a Dawgs fan. See, it’s almost clear that with Carson Beck out of the picture, Gunner Stockton is the one Kirby Smart and the team are relying on. But CBS Sports analyst Emory Hunt is not at all buying their plan of victory against Notre Dame.

Making a bold prediction ahead of their game, Emory said, “I’m going to say the quiet part out loud. I don’t care if they have Carson Beck; Notre Dame is going to beat Georgia. Notre Dame is great on both sides of the line of scrimmage. They can run the football; they can shut down your passing game.”

Looks like for Emory Hunt, whichever quarterback plays against the Notre Dame Bulldogs, the future is in the dark only. Carson Beck’s struggle in the game is evident, but then his passing game is rock solid. Moreover, Gunner might not have as great passing abilities as Beck, but he knows how to make the Dawgs a run-first team. With Stockton on their very first drive, the team scored a touchdown with 54 yards. That’s nothing but a mere representation of excellence.

Ironically, even when the Georgia Bulldogs were winning back-to-back national championship titles, the team never had an extraordinary quarterback. It’s always been the team effort that pushed their fate. Moreover, under coach Kirby Smart, it has always been about teamwork rather than one man taking up the whole charge. There is no doubt that Notre Dame has a good run defense; even when they were playing against Indiana, they could only gain a total of 278 yards. So yeah, it’s going to be a tough game, but it’s Georgia we are talking about!
