And the Gators are back in the trenches. If you thought that Billy Napier and his rag-tag crew had a chance of winning against the Longhorns, then we have nothing to say. This has been arguably the worst year for Florida football and Billy Napier stands in the eye of the storm. On a 4-5 run, they pretty much have nothing left anymore. If they even manage to end the season with a positive record, guess that would be enough. But with Ole Miss and LSU coming next, there is no shot Billy Napier is coming out with a win. The good thing is, at least they managed to get 17 points on the board against Texas. People had thought that this would be a blowout loss for them.
And all of this is kind of wild. More so because a few days back, Florida stated that they will be sticking with Napier going into the 2025 season. Now is the University hacking at its own leg or are they playing checkers while we are playing chess? Well, Paul Finebaum has something to say about that. “It was uh, and that it was one of the strangest, uh releases I’ve ever seen. Uh, and what was even Stranger Than the release was the uh coalescing behind it,” Finebaum mentioned on The Matt Barrie Show. See, no matter how much you hate Finebaum, you have to agree that he has always been right about the Gators. Finebaum was the first guy who said that the season is pretty much over for the Gators and if they even want to make a comeback, they have to switch out the HC.
Lane Kiffin was the pick for the swamp, as per Finebaum, and it makes sense why. Ole Miss is on another level right now, and with that massive win over a team like Georgia? Man, Kiffin is the “It” factor right now. These guys managed to make the Dawgs trail by 18 points on the board.

You know the blowout win the Dawgs had over Kiffin last year? Yeah, the dude came back with vengeance and successfully won back some huge respect with that W. “Um, so I mean, I don’t know. I think it’s over,” Finebaum noted. Yeah, this is it.

The Gators lost their starting QB first because of the ACL and then the only guy who could manage to revive Florida football was out because of a left hamstring injury during the Georgia showdown. Right now, Napier has to fall on a walk-on QB who has already managed to throw 2 interceptions against the Longhorns. Scott Stricklin, Florida’s athletic director, needs to go back to the drawing board for this one. Regardless of what happens, we still gotta talk about the upcoming LSU and Rebels game.
2 more Ls coming for Billy Napier
Okay, so, first up; LSU Tigers. See, Brian Kelly ain’t having a good time. Man just had his pride handed to him in a paper bag after Bama ran wild on that turf and in the rain with a 40+ win over the Tigers. See, that was pretty much the elimination game. Now, there is little to no chance of LSU making the playoffs, but the least they can do is stat pad against the Gators. That is all this game will be. Yes, Garrett Nussmeier is not a good QB, but he is leagues better than what the Gators have got.

Is sticking with Billy Napier a bold move or a recipe for disaster for the Gators?

Now, talking about stat padding, the same will be the case for Ole Miss. Kiffin and Co. are on the playoff list and nothing can stop them. That win over Georgia solidified the greatness of the program and if you think Gators have a shot at breaking through a defense that managed to cripple Kirby Smart‘s O-line, then you are daydreaming. The only game where the Gators have any chance of winning is against the Seminoles, but who knows, even that could have a wild outcome.
