Well. Whatever could go wrong – did go wrong. No, we’re not talking about Shedeur Sanders’ shocking fall out of the first round—that was wild enough. But the start of Day 2 of the 2025 NFL Draft spiraled into pure “mockery”, and honestly, it was hard to watch. A moment that should’ve been filled with hope and momentum turned into a twisted prank, shaking up Prime’s family with a cruel dose of false hope. Sickening stuff. But through it all, Shedeur kept that same energy, still smiling, still grounded, still showing you exactly what Deion Sanders instilled in him.
After Shedeur Sanders posted a heartfelt message on social media—“Thank you GOD for EVERYTHING,”—Pat McAfee Show co-host Darius Butler had a message of his own: “Keep stacking chips!” And just when it seemed like things were settling down, a Twitch stream caught an unexpected twist. Shedeur appeared to receive a call, one that had the room buzzing with anticipation—maybe the call was finally here. But when he answered, it turned out to be someone telling him, “Wait a little longer.”

The room deflated. “I don’t know what that was. Nobody’s got this number, though. Nobody. This is a private number,” Sanders said, trying to brush it off. But the moment stung—and it was all caught on camera. Even in chaos, Shedeur’s poise showed. Still no pick. Still no panic. But definitely a reminder that draft night can be as cruel even to a projected 1 rounder, who enters the 3 now.
He watched as 102 names were called, none of them his. Amazed to say, yet entering Day 3, Shedeur Sanders is the biggest name still waiting, his fall from expectation echoing louder than any pick so far. And as bizarre as it sounds, he’s not even the first Sanders off the board. That title went to South Carolina DT T.J. Sanders, drafted 41st overall by the Buffalo Bills. No relation, but a gut-punch of symbolism for a QB who was once projected to go Top 10.

This isn’t just about snubs. It’s about the shifting tectonics of NFL perception. Even before Friday’s descent into draft limbo, Shedeur’s plight had already become a national talking point—capturing attention from President Donald Trump to athletes, rappers, and fans everywhere. Everyone from hip-hop royalty to gridiron legends has weighed in, stunned by the silence surrounding one of college football’s most recognizable names. As Young Thug said, “Tom Brady didn’t go first round kid.”
So what gives? Some critics point to size. Shedeur stands at 6-foot-1—not ideal by traditional NFL QB standards. But that’s where the argument starts to unravel. Dillon Gabriel, selected earlier, measures in at 5-foot-11 and 201 pounds. That’s shorter and lighter than Shedeur, who’s listed at 215 pounds. Plus, Shedeur’s resume includes pinpoint accuracy, strong decision-making, and top-tier field vision. The only red flag? His sack numbers. He was sacked 94 times over two seasons at Colorado. But anyone who watched those games knows a large portion of those came behind a line made of Swiss cheese.
What’s your perspective on:
Did the NFL Draft just expose its cruel side, or is Shedeur Sanders' resilience the real story?
Have an interesting take?
At best, Shedeur might end up being the sixth QB taken in the draft. It’s an unimaginable slide for someone who entered the weekend as a household name.

Will somebody call Shedeur Sanders already? Day 3 could be the magic hour
While it’s been surprising to see Shedeur Sanders slide undrafted till Day 3, there’s still a strong sense he won’t have to wait much longer. According to Bleacher Report, there are a few potential landing spots that make sense — and maybe even some overdue.
Let’s start with Pittsburgh. The Steelers have had not one, but two shots to snag Sanders already. First, they grabbed Oregon DT Derrick Harmon at No. 21 overall, and then doubled down with Iowa RB Kaleb Johnson at No. 83. Meanwhile, their QB room features Mason Rudolph and Skylar Thompson — so yeah, there’s room for a little firepower. And hey, there’s buzz around four-time MVP Aaron Rodgers having mutual interest in Pittsburgh. If Rodgers says no, why not Sanders?

Then there’s Las Vegas. The Raiders had back-to-back picks at the tail end of Round 3 and still passed. If they truly wanted Sanders, he’d probably already be rocking silver and black. Lastly, keep an eye on the Rams. L.A. has passed on him more than once, but pick No. 127 in Round 4 might just be the sweet spot. They’ve got six more picks, and imagining Sanders in Sean McVay’s system is easy.
While Draft Day 2 was supposed to be the redemption arc… instead, it turned into a headline nobody saw coming. A lot of teams have flirted with Sanders. Now it’s time for someone to put a ring on it on Day 3. No more delays.
