The highly anticipated conference championship game is finally here! This week will feature nine conference championship games. The outcome will provide a clearer picture of who will have the edge in the National Championship game. As of now, the SEC conference title game between Texas and Georgia and the Big Ten title game between Oregon and Penn State are among the most hyped games. But it’s not without a chance that these teams could suffer drastic fates.
Texas and Georgia are entering as No. 2 and No. 5, respectively in the conference championship game. But as Ohio State alum Urban Meyer views it, Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns have a chance to defeat the Bulldogs and beat the finalists in the National Championship game. In his appearance on YouTube’s The Herd with Colin Cowherd on December 7, he said, “I actually picked him last year and I think they’re going to be right there this year. They got a reprieve, they got a lifeline when they got their butts kicked by Georgia and they’ve been playing great ever since.”
Although this one-loss program is favored over Kirby Smart’s 10-2 program, Texas is still walking into an inferno! At least that’s how Urban Meyer views them entering the SEC Championship game for the first time! He added weight to the pressure of the SEC Championship game. “I coached in a couple of three SEC Championship games Colin,” Meyer said. “I think it’s bigger than the national championship when I was there. Whoever won that SEC Championship was going to win the national title. That’s how good the conference was.”

The SEC is a power conference, yes. It consists of some of the top CFB teams like Georgia, Alabama, and Ole Miss. They’ve been winning back-to-back national championship titles for four seasons until Michigan put an end to that streak. The SEC also won six of the last 10 National Championship titles. While the favor is on Texas, Meyer still has a concern for Sarkisian who reached the conference game in his first year. He said, ‘“All due respect, Texas has been in some big games. I’m not sure they’ve been in one like this one.” But for a Buckeyes legend to hold such hope for this SEC team is interesting. The Big Ten is no short of national championship talent either.
Big Ten national championship hotshots
Dan Lanning and Oregon are viewed as the favourites to contest for contesting the national championship title. And it comes without question. They’re an undefeated 12-0 team clinging to the top spot in almost every ranking. But we’ll only know for certain following the outcome of their highly-anticipated Big Ten showdown against Penn State.
Urban Meyer’s old school is also in the mix for the National Championship title. Ryan Day may have incurred another straight loss to Michigan in The Game, but they’re still No. 6 in the CFP rankings. According to the projections, OSU will get the No. 8 seed and play against No. 9 Tennessee, which is something we’ll have to keep an eye on. Still, a lot rests on this weekend’s championship games.
