Kirby Smart and Georgia just lost a valuable commitment in QB Jared Curtis. Does it mean that No. 1 Oregon will swoop in to take their chances to lure this 5-star prospect of the 2026 class? Dan Lanning already has a reliable QB line with Dillon Gabriel being the center of attention. But their hunt for 2025 prospects is still hot. Could that get in the way of their pursuit of Curtis?
Let’s join Oregon Ducks recruiting expert Max Torres who joined Josh Newberg in a new YouTube episode on On3 Recruits on November 7 for intel. In the episode, Torres conceded that Oregon is still in pursuit of Jared Curtis, On3’s No. 1 QB of the 2026 class. The blue-chip QB initially committed to Georgia in March before reopening his recruitment ahead of the Bulldogs’ Week 8 game against Texas. He said, “They’ve stayed involved in this one. He did make it out to Eugene before that initial commitment to Georgia and the Ducks have stayed in the picture here.”

Maxx Torres also highlighted Oregon’s current pursuit for 2025 QBs particularly Cal commit Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele whom they offered back in late September. Right now, the plan with Jared Curtis is to get him back on campus for a one-on-one and see where the visit goes. But we have to consider their QB situation to see if they’re really in need of a QB in 2026.

Oregon already has a star QB in Dillon Gabriel who recorded 2,665 yards and 19 touchdowns in the nine wins this season. The Ducks have a replacement for their senior QB in 2025 by UCLA transfer QB Dante Moore and they already have the 4-star commitment of Akili Smith Jr. of the 2025 class. Torres said of Curtis, “I think that this one is probably one that has a long way to go. We know that Oregon already has Jonas Williams in the boat as a 2026 quarterback but you’re not going to put any limits on yourself when you’re Oregon.” So, the pursuit for Curtis is set to carry on which would be a huge win for the Ducks’ 2026 recruitment strength if they land his commitment.
Oregon leads in player recruitment
Oregon heads into Week 11 as the leader of the five undefeated teams in the 2024 season. They’re not only the No. 1 team in the nation on AP Poll ranking, but they’re also the favorite in the first College Football Playoff rankings of 2024. Their recruitment front exhibits equal success as their field performance.

The Ducks rank 7th in the nation in the 2025 recruiting class with 15 commits out of which are three 5-star commits, 10 4-star commits, one 3-star commit, and an unstarred player. Their 2026 class looks even more promising as of now as they top the list at No. 1 with six 4-star commits and one 3-star commit so far. As for the remainder of the season, Oregon will face three more opponents, which are highly likely to be wins. It won’t be surprising to see the best players lining up at Oregon under the mastermind of Dan Lanning.
