Can Lane Kiffin rally Ole Miss to victory despite the injury woes plaguing the team?

This is Lane Kiffin and Ole Miss’ chance to bounce back from their sore and surprising SEC loss to Kentucky at home last week. But circumstances aren’t going in favor of the Rebels, who are entering the upcoming clash with South Carolina 4-1. Despite being a 10.3-point favorite, Kiffin faces a big block in the injury report ahead of the upcoming SEC kickoff.

As per Pete Thamel’s X post on the SEC injury report on October 5, “Ole Miss edge rusher Princely Umanmielen is out tomorrow at South Carolina.” This is a huge blow because the highly touted Florida transfer played a key role in defense of this season with 13 tackles and 3.5 sacks. His injury from the last loss to Kentucky will keep him out of this crucial upcoming game. But there’s a silver lining for the Rebels amidst these dark clouds.

In another post of Thamel, he mentioned that “Ole Miss star WR Tre Harris is not on the SEC injury report.” The Louisiana Tech transfer was previously listed as questionable and then moved to probable after sustaining a leg injury in Week 3 against Wake Forest. His disappearance from the list means that he’ll be present at Williams-Brice Stadium.

This is good news for Ole Miss, who needs to buckle up their offense after their last defeat. Tre Harris will be an integral piece in the Rebels offense against the Gamecocks. Through five games, he recorded 49 receptions for 804 yards and five TDs. While his presence is like a shot of confidence for the Rebels, South Carolina has their own weapons to boast about.

Lane Kiffin and Ole Miss could find pressure in South Carolina

South Carolina’s offense ranks at No. 40, which is a huge difference from Ole Miss who ranks No. 1 in offense in the nation. But don’t jump to conclusions yet. They’re currently 3-1 coming off of a big 50-7 win against Akron. They also dominated Kentucky with a 31-6 victory in Week 2, the same team that gave Lane Kiffin and the Rebels their first loss of the season.

The Gamecocks’ tanks can present high pressure for the Rebels’ offense with 14 sacks and 11 tackles for loss. They enter the game ranked 4th in the SEC allowing 161 passing yards and giving up 17 points on average. Kyle Kennard leads SC with 5.5 sacks followed by Dylan Stewart with 2.5. Ole Miss QB Jaxson Dart had been sacked 4 times in their last disappointing game. The upcoming battle is going to be an intense battle between two of the top ranked teams on offense and defense.
