Can the Texas Longhorns maintain their undefeated streak, or will Oklahoma spoil their party?

The Texas Longhorns are one of the undefeated teams this season, boasting a 5-0 record as they prepare to face the Oklahoma Sooners in the highly anticipated Red River Rivalry. College football is intensifying week by week, and this matchup is set to be a pivotal moment for both teams. After suffering a loss to Tennessee in Week 5, Oklahoma bounced back with a solid victory over Auburn, showcasing their resilience and determination.

Steve Sarkisian Longhorns led the all-time series against the Sooners with a record of 63-51-5. However, Brent Venables’s team has been dominant in recent matchups, winning five of the last six encounters and holding an 18-11 advantage over the Longhorns during the Big 12 era. Although Longhorns led the series, Kirk Herbstreit, an esteemed American sportscaster and former college football player, believes that Oklahoma’s head coach, Brent Venables, is poised to repeat history against Texas.

In his latest Instagram interview, Herbstreit reflected on his first victory in the Red River Rivalry, stating, “The golden hat fit like a charm after his first @Allstate Red River Rivalry victory last season, and Coach Venables is ready for another round.” The Oklahoma Sooners utilized their bye week to focus on critical areas in preparation for their upcoming game. If we look at their performance before the bye week, they hold a perfect 2-0 record in such situations. However, on 28th September, the Sooners secured their fourth victory, but it was overshadowed by injuries to 11 players, including key wide receivers.

Herbstreit further highlights the exhilarating experience of arriving at the Red River Rivalry, the annual college football game between Oklahoma and Texas, held during the Texas State Fair, and states, “What’s it like to drive in to the state fair with 200,000 people and you’re going to go to your destiny? Where stadiums split 50-50, crimson cream to burn orange. That’s so different than any other environment. You have a group of people that are incredibly excited.”

He added, “They think that their encouragement at that moment is going to be the difference in you winning. There’s a lot of energy that you feel in three and a half hours in the all-state Red River rivalry game, and the joy that can bring so many people.”

Steve Sarkisian and Texas Longhorns fans are likely thrilled with the return of key player Quinn Ewers, who has recovered from an oblique injury. Although Ewers’ absence didn’t significantly hinder the Longhorns, as Arch Manning stepped in as the starter and led the team to consecutive victories, his return is a welcome boost.

After HC Sarkisian announced Ewers’s return, the X account of insider Texas tweeted his statement, where he also stressed the importance of being unpredictable with highly anticipated games to keep the opposing defense guessing. By changing up formations and offensive strategies, he wants to stop the other team’s quarterback from getting into a good rhythm, which can help them score points.

“One of the keys in games like this is you have to continue to mix your looks. You can’t just keep throwing a fastball. You’ve got to throw a curve. You’ve got to throw a change up. You’ve got to keep switching it up or a quarterback can find that rhythm.”

Manning’s performance while Ewers was sidelined was impressive, as he helped Texas maintain its undefeated record with strong showings, including a notable 51-3 victory over Louisiana-Monroe. In his first start, he threw for 258 yards and two touchdowns, demonstrating his potential as a future star for the program.

With Ewers back on the field, the Longhorns are ready to face their toughest challenge yet in the upcoming Red River Rivalry against Oklahoma. Sarkisian’s confidence in his QB will be vital as Texas seeks to strengthen its position as a top contender this season. Let us know if you think Ewers will add more strength to the team or if the Sooners will maintain their winning streak.
