Home/College Football

In just 2 games, Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith is generating quite the buzz, and the college football community loves it. The true freshman out of high school is just 18 years old and has played more than phenomenally, and the fandom already compares him to someone big. I repeat to your attention that, in the last 25 years, he has been the only Buckeye who has had 90+ yards and a touchdown in both of the first two games of his career. Naturally, the hype machine is all in for Jeremiah Smith, and fairly so!

An insider on the ESPNCFB YouTube channel said, “I am serious, he is the best Ohio State receiver of all time. He’s been the best receiver of all time.” Smith didn’t come riding in on the coattails; he came flying out of the gate. In his game against Akron, he played well and recorded six receptions for 92 yards and two through the end zone.

Then, just when you thought he couldn’t do better than that, he came the next week and had five more receptions for 119 yards, including a 70-yard touchdown. Insiders are already dubbing him the best wide receiver prospect they have seen out of Ohio State, and a handful are musing that he might be the best prospect ever.

And let’s not forget the NIL deal he just signed. $1.1 million NIL-valued Smith, became the first college football player to land an endorsement deal with Red Bull, and that speaks volumes about his potential both on and off the field. “Off week, got my wiiings,” Jeremiah Smith joked on social media. If anyone needed more proof that Smith is the real deal, this historic NIL partnership should do the trick.

Currently, there is much discussion on whether Smith is capable of becoming the greatest-ever Ohio State receiver. Not to mention, former NFL player Tim Tebow came out to watch him practice. “I was at practice during fall camp, and I was like, ‘What? This is a joke. This kid is so gifted,’ Tebow said. The former Heisman Trophy winner didn’t stop there, though. He even compared Smith to NFL legend Julio Jones, which at this point is insane because Jones is one of the very best of all time. “I know this sounds like a lot, and I don’t mean for it to be hyperbole… But I remember going against Julio Jones freshman year, and that was the first name that came to my brain when I watched.”

Jeremiah Smith isn’t just a big playmaker either; he’s consistent. In two games, he’s caught 11 passes for 211 yards and three touchdowns. Those are numbers that seasoned veterans put up, not true freshmen. Ohio State fans are already buzzing about him, and it looks like he’s well on his way to breaking all kinds of records. As the competition gets tougher, Smith’s performance is bound to look even more impressive.

Ohio State’s offense is stacked this season with stars like Emeka Egbuka and Carnell Tate, but Jeremiah Smith might just be the best of the bunch. His chemistry with quarterback Will Howard has been on point since day one, and the pair seems to be unstoppable right now. While Ohio State’s schedule will get more challenging, Smith is well on track to not just meet but exceed all expectations.
