Deion Sanders has been clear about how he will have a role to play in his son Shedeur Sanders’s NFL future. Coach Prime has hinted at pulling a repeat of the Eli Manning situation with his QB son if he ends up at a franchise that is not suited to the QB. While Coach Prime’s stance drew some flak, he has found support for his idea from a close friend.
Shedeur is enjoying an impressive season in Colorado and is largely expected to be a first-round pick in the 2025 Draft. However, he may not play for the first team that picks him up, if his father’s comments are anything to go by. Now, Shannon Sharpe has come out and backed Deion’s view on ensuring his son ends up with the right team.
On Tuesday, Sharpe shared his thoughts on the Deion Sanders-Shedeur Sanders possible NFL situation. Talking on the Get Got Pod with Marshawn Lynch & Mike Robinson the former NFL tight end said, “It’s not so much the quarterback. It’s the organization and what they put around him to support him. That’s going to determine whether or not he has success. I’m not sending my son to an unstable situation where you’re not gonna have the apparatuses around him in order to foster a situation where he can grow.

Shedeur Sanders’s possible NFL landing spot has been much debated. His accuracy and quick release are qualities that will add to any NFL team. Although he can be inconsistent and does fall a little short on arm strength, it isn’t something that will prevent him from being a starting QB at a team.
Various mock draft projections have linked him with the Las Vegas Raiders, a team that could desperately use a franchise quarterback. He will bring a sense of security to that position as well as a brand image of his own, something that Raiders’ owner Mark Davis will cherish. However, the question will remain whether the Raiders can build a team best suited to his talents and get the best out of him.
On the other hand, certain mock drafts also see the New York Giants as a viable landing spot for the young quarterback after they moved on from Daniel Jones. Giants HC Brian Daboll can work with Shedeur to help him realize his potential at the highest level. Still, the Giants will have work to do to match Shedeur’s ambitions and his father’s vision for him.
In September while talking to Sharpe, Coach Prime said that he would be willing to pull “an Eli.” Deion Sanders affirmed this in his statement on FS1’s Speak on November 12. When asked if he would get involved if Shedeur ends up with the “wrong organization,” the Buffs HC responded, “Yeah, but I’m not gonna do it publicly. I’ll do it privately.” He then clarified what kind of team he wanted his son to play in.
“Somebody that can handle the quarterback that he is. Somebody that can handle understanding what he’s capable of. Someone that has had success in the past handling quarterbacks or someone in an organization understands what they’re doing, not just throwing you out there amongst the world [and] you don’t have the support in the infrastructure of the team,” he said.
Meanwhile, Sharpe’s take on Sanders’s stance is a U-turn from his feelings on the situation back in March. Responding to Deion Sanders’ claim that he could go down the Eli Manning route, Sharpe responded by saying, “Do I like it? No, I didn’t like it when Eli did it. I don’t like it now… Let whatever’s gonna happen, let it happen.” But it seems he is throwing his support around for whatever Sanders decides for his son. But what is on the mind of the young quarterback?

Shedeur Sanders is preparing for the 2025 Draft
Shedeur is eyeing an entry in the 2025 draft and made his stance clear on November 5. In a video that surfaced on social media, a staff member at the Buffs is seen reminding the boys about registering for classes next term. In response, Shedeur says, “Registration for what? Man I’m going to the league. … I know after last game, y’all are not going to see me for a good reason.” Later, on X, he clarified that he was graduating early.
Then on November 30, following the 52-0 thrashing of the Cowboys, Shedeur said, “Last game at Folsom. It was legendary. Thank you to everybody for coming out. Let’s get it.” His mind seems to be set on the NFL and rightly so. But there is likely to be some drama before and perhaps even after his NFL future is decided, given his father’s stance.
