Got it all wrapped up? Not so fast. Everyone thought five-star athlete Brandon Arrington was leaning Big Ten, but hold on to your hats because things just took a major twist. When you’re the number one athlete in the country (Class of 2026), you’re bound to have every program trying to recruit you. Outmaneuvering 34 other colleges? That’s not just tough; it’s like trying to find that one winning lottery ticket. It’s a real battle royale out there.

So, who’s the team making this late push? None other than Kalen DeBoer and Alabama. They’re not playing around here. It’s clear Coach DeBoer knows he needs top-tier talent, and Arrington is exactly that. Plus, let’s be real, Alabama only has one commitment for the 2026 class so far: cornerback Zyan Gibson. They need to beef up that roster, and landing Arrington would be a huge statement.

An On3Recruits insider, Steve Wiltfong, is shedding light on Arrington’s future plans, specifically mentioning his leaning towards Bama.  “Alabama has become the one to beat for the nation’s number one athlete, cornerback target for Alabama, Brandon Arrington, one of the fastest players in the land. This visit to Alabama this weekend, I think, has set the pace for him as he continues through his process—the bond he has with the players he pointed to now, a lot of corners on the roster from California that made him feel very comfortable,” Wiltfong said. It’s no surprise this guy is at ease with the team because Kalen DeBoer is not playing alone; he’s there with his entire squad supporting Brandon Arrington.

Now just when you think DeBoer’s doing nothing, he is out there making the trip to California for a private meeting with Arrington. With wide receivers coach JaMarcus Shephard, defensive backs coach Maurice Linguist, and even Tide’s GM Courtney Morgan. You know you’re the big fish when Bama’s staff hauls across the country just to talk. That’s not a visit; that’s a full-scale mission. There’s a good reason to do so, as Arrington is such a powerful force. He’s blazing fast, clocking in at 10.27 seconds in the 100m and 4.38 seconds in the 40-yard dash.

However, Brandon Arrington has recently narrowed down his long list of 34 colleges to 12 programs. Oregon and Texas A&M are still in the mix, with other programs like UCLA, Georgia, Oklahoma, Nebraska, LSU, Penn State, USC, and FSU. Oregon, currently boasting the number one recruiting class of 2026 with ten commits already on board, recently hosted Arrington for their junior day. So, yeah, the competition is fierce. But don’t let Oregon’s top ranking fool you.

Arrington has quietly been showing some serious love for Alabama. Remember his visit for the ‘Champions Cook Out’ back in July? He said, “I’m nowhere near committing yet, but Bama is definitely going to be a top school in my options…I know that 100 percent.” And he didn’t stop there. “Everything about Alabama is good. I feel like everything fits me, the city, the area, and the coaching staff.” Basically, this kid’s got a ton of hype, and Bama’s not messing around—they want him. Even though they’re currently ranked way down at 48th with only one commit in the 2026 class, they’re going all-out to land Arrington.

Kalen DeBoer’s path to success

Well, taking over Nick Saban is no joke. It’s like stepping into a highly anticipated sequel with a legendary status where there’s no room for failure. Kalen DeBoer’s first stint with the Tide concluded with a 9-4 record and a bowl loss to Michigan, which didn’t quite meet the expectations of Bama fans. However, even Saban didn’t dominate the SEC in his first year. So, while Tuscaloosa isn’t celebrating with a parade, there’s a momentary pause before panic mode sets in.

But that pause? It’s hanging by a thread, specifically in terms of recruiting. Alabama recently hosted more than 20 highly sought-after prospects during Junior Day, showcasing their enduring appeal. The standout among them was five-star ATH Brandon Arrington. He even hit X with: “Blitz Bama blitz baby🐘.”  Well, getting him on campus was a win, but actually sealing the deal? That’s the actual battle.

However, on the other hand, the 2025 roster feels incomplete, like a puzzle with missing pieces rather than a finished product. This offseason has been particularly challenging, with 23 players departing through the transfer portal, shaking the foundation. The loss of O-line powerhouse Elijah Pritchett, a consistent starter throughout the season, isn’t just a setback—it’s a devastating blow. Bama may replenish its roster every year, but even the best machine stalls when key parts disappear.

Now, it’s DeBoer’s time to prove himself as more than just a substitute teacher. Alabama isn’t designed for slow rebuilds—it’s built for championship titles. If he wishes to etch his name in Bama’s illustrious history, he must act swiftly. The SEC doesn’t wait, and at this moment, the clock is already ticking.
