Home/College Football

Right now the No.1’s are ruling the show in the college football landscape. Yes, we have seen how No.1 QB recruit Bryce Underwood has kept everyone on their toes. Then it was WR Tristen Keys. At the moment, all eyes are on No.1 interior offensive lineman Lamar Brown. Well, he had already caught the hype as he saw himself as Tulane’s Travis Hunter, the dual phenom hailing from Colorado. Now, this was enough for programs to jump into the race to land him.

However, only four schools are lucky to run the final sprint. Meanwhile, even though Mario Cristobal and Mike Elko, stand a chance, they will have to put in their blood and sweat to woo Brown. After all, he already has his favorite.

Lamar Brown’s roadmap to a decision

The 5-star had made a firm ground for himself. Brown did turn heads with his aggressive playing style. But what makes him get the Hunter tag? Well, the Buffs two-way star is known for his caliber at both wide receiver and cornerback. The same goes for Brown. Even though he is listed as an offensive lineman, he is equally dominant on the defensive side of the pigskin. However, he strictly opts for playing at the OL position in college. He had amassed nearly 30 scholarship offers on the go. Finally, it has come to his ‘Top 4′. The fortunate ones are the LSU Tigers, Texas A&M, Florida State Seminoles, and Miami Hurricanes.

In an interview with On3’s Chad Simmons, Brown stated, “It really came down to me deciding to play defensive line in college. A lot of schools wanted to play offensive line, but those four schools were the ones recruiting me the hardest as a defensive lineman.” Finally, he made it official on Thursday 6, that’s it’s the Big Four. He will be first paying a visit to Cristobal’s team on May 30. This will be followed by FSU on June 6, Texas A&M on June 13, and will wrap it up with LSU Tigers on June 20. Now here comes a catch!

Looks like Cristobal, Elko, and Mike Norvell gotta hustle walking into the spring. It’s not gonna be all easy-breezy. Rather it might sweat them out with the amount of effort they will have to put in for Brown. Good for the programs, Brown already revealed who has an edge. “LSU is a little above A&M at No. 1. Florida State and Miami are tied after those two at the top.” The 6-foot-3, 285-pounder seems to have given a big piece of his heart to Brian Kelly’s program. With Brown primarily focusing on playing defense at the next level, LSU’s replacement for defensive line coach Bo Davis might come as a big bonus in landing the 5-star player. However, not everyone is lucky like the four frontrunners.

Is LSU's local advantage enough to fend off fierce competition for Lamar Brown?

How Lamar Brown snubbed one of his prime suitors

Well, you don’t have to rewind the tape much, but a little to January. Kalen DeBoer’s Alabama Crimson Tide came off as the hot pursuer of Brown. So much so, that their wide receivers coach, JaMarcus Shephard took the rein in his hands and met Lamar Brown personally. The No.1 recruit was yet to pay a visit to Tuscaloosa on February 1, However, the Alabama coach refused to hold patience till then.

And it did work well. Brown sounded all confident and positive about DeBoer’s program. The biggest reason being the Bama pipeline reaching great heights in the NFL. “It’s just the standard, really. You see a lot of players go there, get developed, and get a chance to go to the NFL,” Brown stated. But even with this, they could not even make it to the Top-4 list. Turns out that the MaxPreps High School Football Junior All-America second-team star will not be going anywhere outside LSU.

Being a student at Louisiana State University Laboratory High School, Lamar Brown is bound to have deep feelings for LSU. However, this did not leave the Tigers HC Brian Kelly to sit silently and take the young chap for granted. As Shea Dixon of On3 reported, “Brian Kelly went over with his staff in January when they could do in-person visits and sat with him for a while at the high school on LSU’s campus, and I just feel like, for a local kid, they’ve prioritized him for so long.” Are the remaining three competitors fighting a losing battle, or is landing Lamar Brown still within reach?
