Was Graham Mertz‘s season-ending injury a blessing in disguise for Billy Napier and the Gators? With a back-to-back losing streak, Florida fans had their pitchfork out for Billy Napier and Co., and why wouldn’t they? Napier hasn’t made a single good decision for the team since the start of the season. But with the win over Kentucky, it feels like Billy Napier might just keep his $50 million. However, he has to thank someone for it.

And who is that someone? DJ Lagway, of course. Back on X, FLSportsTakes revealed what Jadan Baugh had to say about Lagway’s vision to transform the Gators. “Ever since we got here, he’s [DJ Lagway] been telling me we can change Florida back to what it was,” Baugh had mentioned. We have said it before and we will say it again; Lagway should’ve been the starting QB for the Gators. He has been one of the best on the QBs list and is much better than what Mertz was.

Sadly, it took a whole injury to make Napier realize what he was missing out on. Against Kentucky, it was the Lagway and Baugh who managed to turn things around for the Gators. While it is true that the Wildcats’ performance during that game was a hollow shell of the team that went up against Georgia and almost managed to snap Kirby Smart and Co., you cannot say that the Gators’ offense was on point.

Gators freshman RB Baugh managed to bring in 5 total touchdowns during Gators’ possessions. This kid was on fire. And Lagway managed to change the scene with his overall pass game and presence from the pocket. The game gave rise to one of the best dynamic duos on the Florida offensive line and we cannot wait to see what Baugh and Lagway manage to do when the team goes up against the Dawgs.

However, all the credit must not go to the offense. Billy Napier and his defensive line have been a hit or miss this season but with one single change, Napier has managed to switch up the entire image of the D-line.

Cormani McClain is back in the house

What’s your perspective on:

Is DJ Lagway the savior the Gators needed all along, sidelined by poor coaching decisions?

Have an interesting take?

There was a lot of talk about Cormani McClain and why he was not in any of the Gators’ games. We got to know that McClain was benched because he was “too small”. This was unfortunate because that guy transferred over to the Gators from the Buffs because he wanted to show off his skills. However, the Kentucky showdown finally gave the guy some chance at proving himself.

Going from a forgotten star to bringing in his first 2024 season interception on that turf, McClain did show what he was made of. The interception he landed, converted into a possession as McClain managed to run the ba-l back up by 25 yards. This allowed the offensive line to end the domination with 48-20 on the board.

And it wasn’t only him. The Gators D-line finally snapped into place during that game. They held back the Wildcats’ defense and managed to make the team go scoreless in the first quarter and then the fourth quarter. It feels like Napier is finally getting his groove back. The Gators still have a shot at cracking the Bowl games, but can they do it? Keep in mind that this team would be going up against Georgia this Sunday and then the Longhorns after a by-week. Do let us know what you think will happen to Napier and Co.
