Shedeur Sanders outshines Joe Burrow and Johnny Manziel—Is he the next big thing in college football?

Does Nike believe that Shedeur Sanders could be the next Heisman Trophy winner? Seeing their Billboard poster after their latest collaboration with the Colorado signal caller would make you believe they do. He didn’t have to accomplish great feats like some of his predecessors, who also signed with the giant branded company.

This isn’t the first time elite college football talents have appeared on giant billboards. But when they do, they always have a strong backing. For instance, Johnny Manziel, who also previously signed with Nike, Joe Burrow, and Jayden Daniels, was also put up in Times Square. But they’re all Heisman winners so what about Shedeur Sanders?

Nike has gone to great lengths to advertise Shedeur Sanders, who isn’t a Heisman Trophy winner yet, unlike the players mentioned above. According to an X post on August 29, the Buffs’ QB has his picture put up on a giant Billboard by Nike in Times Square. It’s a picture of him when he was raising his arm, flashing his AP Royal Oak watch. The included caption reads, “You know what Time it is.”

This huge gesture from Nike is a testament to Shedeur Sanders’ greatness as a college football player. Despite a challenging first season in Colorado, he still managed to lock down 3,230 yards and 27 TDs, completing 69.3 percent of his passes to make it to several media predictions as one of the top overall prospects in the 2025 NFL Draft and a potential Heisman candidate, thanks to Deion Sanders’ strategic planning. Amidst all these football talks, the youngest Sanders son has donned Prime shoes, emulating the legacy of Coach Prime.

Like father, like son. Shedeur Sanders followed in his father Deion Sanders’s footsteps with the latest Nike deal. The 22-year-old becomes the first college football player to sign an NIL deal with the popular company. This could be the foundation for him to design and create his own branded shoes like Coach Prime. “Now it’s a family business,” that’s what both Nike and Shedeur said.

Have an interesting take?

When Deion Sanders first signed with Nike in the 1900s, it paved the way for him to release exclusive sneakers and cleats highly sought by the public. Shedeur has already signed with major companies like Under Armour, Gatorade, Mercedes-Benz, and more. There is no limit to what this remarkable football star/business enthusiast could do, the one who has the highest NIL valuation among college student-athletes with already $4.7 million under his name.
