Well, we all know how GOAT Nick Saban has been on the gridiron, right? But have you ever wondered how the former Alabama HC has been in his real life? Time for some inside scoops. Looks like Saban has been a tough dad to his kids. And guess who knows that the best? The GOAT’s daughter Kristen Saban.

Yes, the proud daughter always roots for her dad and never fails to be part of Saban’s highlight moments. However, while Kristen was growing up, she had to go through her dad’s wild antics. Now that she is a mother herself, does Grandpa Nick still hold to his tough persona?

Saban and his daughter Kristen share the strongest of bonds. Like her father, she too never misses a chance to root for Crimson Tide, even though the GOAT no longer holds any post. Back on June 11, she was there for the former HC who received the Icon Award at the ESPYs. Later on, Kristen was trolled for her look, but she didn’t care. Not just her father’s contribution to the sports, Kristen is very much involved in the Sabans’ philanthropic drives as well. Saban and his wife Terry run a non-profit organization called the Nick Kids Foundation. With this Kristen now has a good time staying around with her dad. But what about the years when she was growing up?

A post shared by Ryan Clark (@realrclark)

On The Pivot Podcast, host Ryan Clark dug through the past and spilled some hilarious secrets about Saban. “There’s an old clip of you saying that when young guys would come to your house to date your daughter, you would ask them what they play because you wanted to see what sort of competitor they were.” The host wanted to know if after all these years and becoming a grandparent has he become “soft” or not. One comment stood out in the comment section of the IG post. Has to be Kristen’s. She tried to add to the fun and dropped a comment about how she is the best one to ask the question, “Can confirm (laughing emoji).” But what did the GOAT say?

Not even for once did Saban deny the charge brought against him. He said, “Them boys are coming knocking at the door. So when they coming, the doorbell rang and Kristen had a date. Everybody ran to open the door because they didn’t want me to open it cause if I opened it first thing, I’d look at the guy and I’d say “What do you play?”” He then revealed something that’s going to leave you in splits. “Everybody in the house is like “Oh no, Dad! Don’t do that,”” shared the 73-year-old legend. Now what about the latter half of the question?

Nick Saban has unleashed a soft version of himself

Clark asked, “As you’ve gotten older and now you don’t have to do that anymore, have you softened? Are you a soft grandparent?” Before being a granddad, his daughter must have wooed her father with her choice of man. Kristen got married to Adam Setas on May 30, 2015. Luckily Setas got the green pass from father-in-law Saban as he fell into his criteria of being a sportsman and hence a “competitor.” Not many know that Kristen’s better half played hockey at Bama during his uni days.

So when Clark asked, “How did the husband [Adam Setas] breakthrough?” Saban immediately assured, “I mean he’s a good guy, they’re all great,” even though Setas is now far removed from sports. He is the Meill Lynch VP. Now it’s time for Saban’s grandkids to pass the test. He is blessed with 3 grandchildren. Nicholas’ daughter, who is the eldest, and Kristen’s son, Amelie, and James aka Jamie. The tough-hearted grandfather discovered his softer side. Thanks to the sweet souls.

“I just melt around the grandkids,” Nick Saban admitted. However, the GOAT makes it a habit that his grandchildren get exposed to sports. James is often spotted accompanying his granddad to the golf course. Kristen Saban too sees her son playing football when he grows up, carrying the Saban legacy forward. Looks like Nick Saban would not be that tough mentor for the lil one.
