Is Paul Finebaum trying to undermine Nick Saban and Deion Sanders for his own gain?

Paul Finebaum has been rousing the topic of Deion Sanders. With more drama brewing in the college football scene yet again, in a recent interview, Finebaum said that Sanders is likely to depart from Colorado after this season, to note that the head coach always begins searching for a new team when the Buffaloes don’t go for a bowl game. Though the prediction does not come as a big shock, it is the media attention Sanders received that is being considered unusual.

One host went as far as saying that, “I don’t think Paul I don’t think Paul would talk about Nick Sabin like that”, while this feeds into the idea that there needs to be an actual motive behind the relentless bashing of Sanders. Colorado had a very poor start into the season after having been defeated 28-10 by Nebraska and this is how Finebaum saw an opportunity to attack Sanders. But has the criticism been fair?

The season has not ended yet, and getting off to a bad start is common, let alone when you’re with a head coach and trying to set up a foundation. Paul Finebaum has dragged Nick Saban into this discussion for a reason, to contrast how he has been treating Deion Sanders on one hand, and traditional head coaches such as Saban on the other.

The only good game that the Buffaloes had was their shutout victory against North Dakota State, that was an impressive victory, however, the Nebraska game exposed many weaknesses in Sanders’ team. Finebaum doesn’t appear to think Colorado has much of a shot at righting the ship this year and that Sanders will be desperate to get out as quickly as possible.

Some believe that Finebaum’s constant jabs at Sanders come from a deeper issue. Some of the things, that the media emphasizes about Deion are his personality and his ego. Still, instead of insisting that, heretofore the fans could only dream about a coach who operates in a way different from the rest. Nonetheless, Paul Finebaum appears to focus on how Saban can be criticized, noting that Deion Sanders might bolt on Colorado after the 2024 season. It was pointed out by him that should Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter leave early for the draft as expected in the next year, Sanders won’t have the talent to be able to remain competitive with the Buffaloes.  “No more Travis, no more Shedeur. What’s the motivation for him to beat himself up?” Finebaum questioned. This is the conclusion that Finebaum had to make and according to him, Sanders might be looking for his way out once the talent dries up.

Is Paul Finebaum trying to undermine Nick Saban and Deion Sanders for his own gain?

Have an interesting take?

Now, the bigger question might be: Why does Finebaum have such an apparent passion for this rivalry? He’s been personal with Sanders more than a few times and makes sure to criticize him every now and then; whenever he has an opportunity to blast Deion, he goes to it but does not do the same to others who experience similar issues. Do you think it is because Sanders is a public personality with a loud temper, or is Finebaum perceiving something else? Let us know in the comments.
