Deion Sanders: The ultimate role model for divorced dads or just doing what any father should?

Coach Prime to the world and yet, the best version of him is ‘Father’ Prime. Throughout the entirety of his career, Deion gathered accolades from all over, ranging from two Super Bowl championships to being a Hall of Famer, and yet, the title of a ‘daddy’ might be his favorite among all of those.

Deion’s personal life has been rather tumultuous compared to his glory-filled sports career. He has gone through 2 divorces and one breakup and is still a marvelous father to his 5 children. Seeing as this is the last year that Deion gets to play with his sons, Shedeur and Shilo, with the Colorado Buffaloes before they set out for the NFL, it’s more than crucial for Coach Prime to take his teams to immeasurable levels of success. He believes that Shedeur should also play to ensure that his children could look up to him someday as he looks at Deion today.

On the 27th August episode of the ‘Outta Pocket with RGIII’ show, Deion came on the show to talk about all things related to the Colorado Buffaloes and how they’ll make their much-awaited comeback this season. While talking about how Shedeur needs to pave the way for his future prodigies to look up to, Deion was heard emphasizing the importance of “fatherhood” strongly.

Deion mentioned how he’s “divorced” but that doesn’t stop him from being the best father he can be to his sons. He further added, “I’m a divorced father but I didn’t stop fathering. Won custody of my kids but I never stopped fathering. By myself, working in CBS and working at NFL Network, never stop fathering so I’ve been in whole time. So no matter what life presents you, don’t stop doing what you’ve been called to do.” Thus, if it weren’t for the motivation that Deion had due to his children, we probably wouldn’t be seeing Coach Prime on the sidelines inspiring millions of fans every day. That said, here’s what Deion had to say about still influencing his sons’ life even after they go to the NFL.

As per common predictions, both Shedeur and Shilo could be first-round picks in the 2025 NFL Draft if this season goes well for them. In any case, they will be leaving their father’s nest next year, making this the last time they rub their hooves in the dirt with the Buffaloes this year. Though the team didn’t make a lot of waves in 2023 with a 4-8 record, Deion will want to ensure that they don’t repeat their mistakes of the past, especially since this is such a special season.

Have an interesting take?

During a press conference, Deion was asked about the Buffs’ future after both Shedeur and Shilo leave next year and he replied, “It’s not the last go-around for me, I’m just getting started in college football. I don’t think this is the closing, it’s just different levels to this thing. Although I’m 100% sure that I’m not going to be their coach next year, I’m still gonna have influence on their lives because I’m their father.” Thus, Deion seems to be hell-bent on staying back and reforming the Colorado Buffaloes for what they are while his sons embark on a path to gain NFL glory.
