With Nebraska's new physical edge, can Colorado Buffs even stand a chance this season?

The upcoming season is a crucial one for the Buffs since the strength of their horns will be tested to the fullest. Deion Sanders and the team sit atop a mountain of expectations from both fans and haters who await their downfall. In the midst of this, their opponents are also preparing long and hard, out of which the Cornhuskers seem to be sharpening the edges of their swords the best.

The Colorado Buffaloes have a tough schedule this year. Their season opener pits them against the North Dakota State Bisons, which is an amazing team. Up next are the Nebraska Cornhuskers, who are their longtime rivals. Though the Cornhuskers have consecutively lost to the Buffaloes in the past 3 times they’ve met, they will be looking to go through Coach Prime’s team with quite the prejudice since he bested them in his debut season in 2023. While the Buffaloes have a star-studded roster this season, the Nebraskan team doesn’t seem to be lagging too since the transformation of Tommi Hill will surely strike fear among the hearts of the Buffs’ fans.

Tommi Hill began his season with the Cornhuskers in 2022 as a sophomore and is now an important member of the squad, going into his senior year. In 2023, he received the Honorable-Mention All-Big Ten award as well as being on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll. Now, he’s brought forth a massive physical transformation in preparation for this season, which can only mean trouble for the Colorado Buffaloes.

As per a tweet on X, Tommi Hill’s transformation is clearly letting out a lot of whistles from the fans since he’s grown tremendously in size. Seeing as his role is to engage in physical interactions on the field, he will be a force to be reckoned with, especially for the defensive players of the Buffs. Hill is a vital player for Nebraska since he was part of a Blackshirt defense that posted Nebraska’s best-rushing defense since the team joined the Big Ten in 2011. But will Hill’s prowess be enough for Nebraska to break the Colorado winning streak against them as part of such an iconic rivalry?

Have an interesting take?

The Colorado-Nebraska rivalry is one of the oldest in college football. These 2 teams met on the field for the very first time In 1898 and then started to compete annually in 1948. While Colorado views Nebraska as its biggest rival, the Cornhuskers have looked to Oklahoma with the most intensity. As of now, Nebraska leads the all-time series with a score of 49-21-2, which makes it evident that the Buffs have a lot to catch up on.

This iconic rivalry came to its end when Nebraska moved to the Big Ten while Colorado moved to the Pac-12 shortly after. The 36-14 score in 2023 sent waves throughout college football and painted Colorado in a whole new light, which is something they’ll have to repeat this season.
Moreover, it meant a lot for Deion Sanders’ reputation when he was able to defeat the program’s biggest rivals in his first year but the matchup on 7th September will prove whether he actually had the capability or if it was just a fluke.
