At this point, Deion Sanders should just give up on defending himself. The 2024 season has been a rollercoaster for the Buffs, but more so for Coach Prime. It all started with the CBS reporter snub and Deion refusing to answer any question from CBS. Then came the dreaded Denver Post scene where Deion was forced to ban a columnist for repeated personal attacks. Now, as the games get more heated, another controversy has started tailgating Deion Sanders and his team. The entire fight song drama feels like something a 5-year-old will start just to get some attention.
So, it ain’t no wonder why Deion Sanders Jr. decides to drop the bombshell regarding what Coach Prime felt about the entire thing. On September 19th, on Zero 2 Sixty, Matt McChesney had a simple question. “Why is that everyone so jealous?” McChesney noted. “I don’t know. When my dad saw the thing…..he just be looking at like what the heck….this just another false allegation, it’s getting weird,” Deion Jr. mentioned.
First, let us get you up to speed regarding what exactly is this entire fight song drama. So back during the Huskers game, when Shedeur Sanders landed his TD pass, it was reported that Coach Prime had asked the band not to play the Buffs fight song. The entire news had zero factual evidence or backing and it was natural that Deion’s first reaction was to call it “idiotic”. McChesney raised a fair point while talking about this entire thing. “They (Colorado Buffs) have the highest GPA……why don’t people celebrate all this?” McChesney pointed out.

How many times have you seen someone talk about Travis Hunter and his 4.0 GPA during the fall semester? Or how many times have you seen someone discuss how there’s nothing illegal going on around the campus? Heck, teams or camps like the Bulldogs have faced issues regarding a ‘crime culture’.
The thing is, if people just ask themselves, ‘Why do we hate Coach Prime?’, they would probably have no answer. The main thing is, that Deion Sanders has made Buffs such a big deal that everyone wants to beat it to the ground. Much like Andy Staples had pointed out way back. “Everybody who plays Colorado wants to kick the crap out of Colorado,” Staples had mentioned while talking about Shedeur Sanders’ claims regarding Buffs being “everybody’s Super Bowl.”
Taking a team that had nothing and making it something everyone has on the tip of their tongue is quite the feat. Being famous does come with its set of advantages and disadvantages and it looks like Coach Prime is just facing one of the disadvantages. However, he ain’t the only Sanders who is being dragged through the mud for something.

The Rams game was a major head-turner. The boys on the team did everything right and made sure that they didn’t repeat the same mistakes as the Huskers game. And you gotta give it up to Deion. He finally learned from his mistakes. The O-line made sure that Shedeur was protected, and this allowed the QB to land 4 TDs and grab more than 300 yards under his belt. However, the main highlight of the game was the ‘handshake controversy’. So, post-game, when everyone was out there shaking hands and stuff, Rams QB Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi approached Shedeur.

“You were talking that s–t on Instagram,” Shedeur said on Brayden’s face and refused the handshake. Now, whether this was unsportsmanlike or not, we’ll let you guys decide. However, Shedeur’s entire reasoning behind his action was that Brayden was creating unnecessary drama and bashing the team on the internet before they hit the turf. Alas, the Sanders ain’t ever running away from drama, that’s for sure.
However, y’all should switch gears and focus on the EssentiallySports Think Tank interview with Doug Sanders. This is going to help y’all understand the intricacies of what it takes to make an athlete the brand.
