The 2025 NFL Draft quarterback debate is heating up, and as expected, Colorado Buffs’ Shedeur Sanders and Miami’s Cam Ward are at the center of the QB drama. But unlike most top QB prospects, his draft story comes with an added layer of intrigue. PS: Buffs two-way freak Travis Hunter is also in the mix for the top pick. When your father is an NFL legend and your head coach, the conversations surrounding your landing spot don’t just stay in front offices—they make headlines. And in Shedeur’s case, that spotlight just got a little brighter.
Deion Sanders, ever the showman, has been deliberate in how he addresses his son’s NFL future. The Hall of Famer has never been one to bite his tongue, but in recent weeks, he’s allowed speculation to swirl without much interference. That changed when he subtly co-signed the latest buzz, liking an Instagram post featuring Cleveland Browns general manager Andrew Berry’s statements at the Senior Bowl.
Berry made it clear that Deion has no plans to block his son from joining the franchise. That’s all it took for the internet to light up. One Instagram like, and suddenly, the idea of Shedeur wearing a certain shade of orange felt very real. Disgruntled, Colorado alum Matt McChesney reacted to it in his podcast Zero 2 Sixty with Matt McChesney on this idea.

He didn’t just disagree with the potential move—he absolutely torched it. “Yeah, look really great in the Cleveland Brown uniform. But I really think that it could be, you know, an absolute just disaster,” McChesney’s temperature went up to 100 as he continued. “No bro, I don’t want him to go to Cleveland, and it has nothing to do with Shedeur. It has everything to do with Cleveland. Please God stay the f–k away from my guy. I don’t want them to take Travis Hunter either. Stay the f–k away from him too. Just draft an offensive lineman or something, Cleveland. Go the f–k away.” If there was a subtle way to voice concerns, McChesney clearly wasn’t interested.

But while McChesney would rather see Shedeur anywhere but Cleveland, the Browns seem to have their hearts set on the Colorado star. NFL Rookie Watch reported they are “all in” on drafting him at No. 2, believing he has the tools to be their long-term answer at quarterback. For a franchise that has cycled through quarterbacks like a revolving door for decades, the appeal of landing a polished, NFL-ready talent could make sense. If Shedeur Sanders is the guy, Cleveland might finally have its answer at the position.
The Buffs insider, however, is adamant that a better opportunity awaits elsewhere. He points to the Raiders as the dream landing spot, a franchise that recently brought in Tom Brady as a minority owner and hired Pete Carroll as HC. “You’re in Vegas; you have Tom Brady who’s running things now, you got Pete Carroll as a coach. Raiders are a way f–k better opportunity for Sanders than the goddamn Browns, man.” Not to forget Raiders were very much in the race before they lost the No. 1 pick. The Raiders, despite their struggles, have a much-needed identity shift underway, and having Brady in the building certainly doesn’t hurt a young quarterback’s development.
There’s also another wrinkle to Shedeur’s potential move to Cleveland—Deion Sanders’ deep ties with new Browns quarterbacks coach Bill Musgrave. The two were teammates back in their 49ers days in 1994, and that connection could help ease Shedeur’s transition. For all the concerns about the Browns’ organizational track record, having a familiar face in the building could be a game-changer. Musgrave has been around the league for years and understands how to develop quarterbacks in a way that could accelerate Shedeur’s growth.
With the draft still months away, this saga is far from over. Deion Sanders may not be stopping a move to Cleveland, but that doesn’t mean it’s the best fit.
Titans HC says he sees no difference between Shedeur Sanders and Joe Shiesty
Some see delusion, but he sees a vision. Shedeur Sanders has been one of the most polarizing QB prospects in the 2025 NFL Draft conversation, but if you ask Tennessee Titans’ head coach Brian Callahan, there’s a little bit of Joe Burrow in his game.

Callahan, whose Titans hold the No. 1 overall pick, made the lofty comparison while speaking with ESPN’s Turron Davenport this week. Sanders, known for his pinpoint accuracy at Colorado, has faced questions about his arm strength. But Callahan isn’t too concerned. “People had questions about Burrow’s arm strength in general coming out,” Callahan said. “One of the things that makes Joe so unique—and I think you can probably put Shedeur in the same conversation—is their ability to anticipate throws.”

According to Callahan, elite timing and accuracy can more than makeup for a less-than-rocket arm. If Sanders can consistently put the pigskin in the right spot at the right time, defenses are going to have a real problem. Already he was a tough call; these kinds of talks will surely have teams thinking twice before passing on him come draft night now.
