“He better be ready mentally to take that on.” You ain’t getting that $10 million paycheck so easily. Michigan Man was pretty dead before the OSU game happened. Sherrone Moore managed to flip the script, and somehow, the bluebloods escaped the “Fire Sherrone Moore” stage and kick-started the Wolverines’ redemption arc. While we know that expecting this team to do as well as the Jim Harbaugh counterpart is like asking Shenlong for more than 1 wish, there is still some hope. The No.1 QB of the 2025 class is all in, and Sherrone Moore and Michigan won’t waste a second using him.

…And this right here is the problem. Some new developments surrounding the Wolverines point towards Bryce Underwood having a “not so good” time at the camp. Back on X, Aaron McMann shared, “Amid all the Michigan QB talk today, HC Sherrone Moore said Davis Warren was “leaning” toward returning for a fifth year. And he emphatically said he wants him back.” There are 2 sides of this coin. For Michigan, Davis Warren was the crutch that kept the crippling team walking. Although a walk-on QB, he did more than enough. Yes, 9 interceptions over 6 touchdowns point to a grim outlook, but can you expect much from a guy who wasn’t even that well-equipped from the get-go?

On the flip side, though, Warren coming back for another year means he will finally have more than enough experience to deal with the competition. “Being molded by fire,” is the apt expression. However, this makes the Underwood situation tricky.

See, we have already discussed this before. Underwood coming in with that massive of a package will lead to big expectations. If UM is gonna pay you in millions, then they would expect you to perform on an elite level. With Warren on the squad, Underwood will get some much-needed guidance but at the same time, he would also have to outperform Warren to prove his worth.

“He’s going to be expected to be the starter before the end of spring practice,” Brian Smith had pointed out. Unless that ticket gets punched by someone else. See, Michigan needed a change in QB depth and the relief came as Underwood flipped from LSU. However, no one would’ve guessed that the Bluebloods would also end up landing Fresno State’s elite QB.

Is Michigan's $10 million gamble on Underwood a masterstroke or a ticking time bomb?

Over 8k passing yards and 65 TDs. Mikey Keene knows the game and could very well make Bryce the backup. More so because Keene knows what it’s like to play against elite competition. The Bulldogs had their tug of war with UM and although they lost, they still got a taste of B1G power.

And this alone gives him the edge over Underwood. While Bryce might be the No.1 QB of the 2025 class, he is still a high school player with no college-level experience. With Warren and Keene both on the squad, Moore could end up pushing Underwood more.

At the end of the day, UM gotta get its money’s worth, right? Now, this over $10 million deal is either the best step the Wolverines have taken, or it is a ticking time bomb that is going to destroy the 2025 season run and result in a full-blown buyout.
